Welcome to Harrow Arts Centre

My name is Kerry Blackburn, the Programme and Marketing Manager here at Harrow Arts Centre and I’m delighted to present our new season of events and performances. The last Friday of each month is our regular jazz night – bringing you the best established and up and coming modern jazz acts, check out Dennis Rollins with his Velocity Trio in October. Our theme for our Autumn film season is Directorial Debuts ranging from afternoon classics and family films to independent cinema and foreign language. Don’t miss our brilliantly fun Dirty Dancing Sing Out in December. Our family shows are scheduled for the last weekend of each month to help you busy parents and grandparents with your planning – we’re really excited about having Andy Day from CBeebies here in October half term with his fantastic show, Tick Tock Time Machine. I’m especially looking forward to our community pantomime Dick Whittington. It’s a fantastic project where our professional production team works with the community and local schools to develop and perform a fun filled show that the whole family can enjoy! A live music club night where you get to hear the hottest unsigned bands and artists around with an open mic at the start of the night!

The Apostates were formed out of a mutual affection of playing noisy, brash punk rock with a healthy side order of dirty ska licks and soulful reggae rhythms. Virtuoso trombonist Dennis Rollins has performed at the forefront of UK jazz, funk and pop for 25 years. Music 100% Halloween Oxjam

Friday Jazz: Yazz Ahmed

100% showcases some of the best upcoming musicians and performers from around Harrow. Run by young people for young people, 100% Oxjam presents a night of singer-songwriters and bands, with an open mic you can sign up for on the night, all raising money for charity! With Halloween coming up, it’s guaranteed to be a scare!

Trumpet and flugelhorn player, Yazz Ahmed, has collaborated with the likes of John Dankworth, Lee Scratch Perry and Radiohead. Tipped as a star of the future by Jazzwise magazine in 2011, her debut album Finding My Way Home contrasts the music of her Arabic heritage with British jazz from the 1950’s.

Disability Arts Festival 2012

Family Rumpelstiltskin

Fifteen-year-old Oliver Tate has two big ambitions: to save his parents’ marriage via carefully plotted intervention and to lose his virginity before his next birthday. Something Different Open House London: Artist Talk

Let’s Not Forget: HAC Heritage Tour

To celebrate the launch of our new contemporary art programme we are offering you the opportunity to hear the internationally renowned sculptors Jeff Lowe and Rob Ward talking about their work and careers. Joining Jeff and Rob are artists Claire McDermott, Jane McAdam Freud, and Susan Williams, talking about their work and ‘Culture’ the exhibition on display in the gallery, curated by Exhibit Art. This tour focuses on the season of remembrance and past scholars and Masters who made the supreme sacrifice, with a showing of the recent film featuring the later life of Theodore B Harvey VC DSO MC, a man who has the poignant honour of being the most highly decorated non-combatant of World War One.

1940s New Years Eve Dinner Dance

Monday 31 December, 7.30pm-1am £75 (over 18s only)

An exploration of art as a means to create culture between different nationalities without language, this exhibition launches a new program of contemporary art at HAC. Curated by ‘EXHIBIT art’ the exhibition includes works by internationally renowned sculptors Jeff Lowe and Rob Ward. The above image is a woodblock print by Jeff Lowe which was made in 2011. It is untitled and is 56 x 76cm.

What better way to ring in the New Year than celebrating with the nostalgia of the 1940s? Join us for the ultimate, vintage dinner dance in our beautiful Grade II * listed Elliott Hall. Authentic 1940’s entertainment will be brought to you by the glamorous close harmony trio, The Sequin Sisters followed by the rich, retro sounds of the Nathan Hassall Jazz Quartet. To accompany the swinging musical acts will be expert lindy hop dancers Swing Dance UK who will taxi dance with guests after dinner! At midnight, raise your glasses to celebrate with the rest of the UK as we bring the chimes of Big Ben to Elliott Hall. Guests are encouraged to dress in 1940s style vintage wear or add a vintage twist to an elegant outfit for Auld Lang Syne! As well as the great entertainment, tickets also include a fantastic three course dinner with wine, provided by Daisy’s in the Arts, and of course, a drink to toast the New Year.

Harrow Art Society

25 September – 13 October Harrow Art Society was established in 1934 which makes them the longest running Art Society in Harrow. Their very popular Annual Exhibition will be held in the Elliott Galleries, exhibiting a wide range of work by talented local artists including pastels, oils, watercolour and acrylic & mixed media. Hatch End High School presents a selection of drawings, paintings & photographs from their end of year art exhibition 2012. The exhibition will include ‘A’ Level Fine Art, GCSE Art & Design, ‘A’ Level & GCSE Photography.

Lord Mayor of London 7 December – 7 January

“Turn again Whittington, Make all your dreams come true, Thrice Mayor of London!” In this original exhibition, schools from Harrow present their own creative writing and illustrations, inspired by our upcoming pantomime. Pupils started with the phrase, ‘If I were Lord Mayor of London…’ and have thought about what they would do if they were in charge… be sure to stop by in December to see what they said!

This year sees the celebration of 50 years of Independence for Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago. Events Exclusive brings the award winning London Community Gospel Choir to Harrow to celebrate Black History Month. Freedom Celebration chronicles the connections between British and Caribbean histories and weaves the narratives of struggle and freedom in an evening of song, art, storytelling, dance and music. It is through these cultural expressions that accounts of how Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago won their independence from British rule will be told.
