Fauré’s Requiem on original instruments

In January 2014, The Choir of King’s College, Cambridge were joined by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and former choral scholar Gerald Finley to make the first recording of Marc Rigaudière’s new reconstruction of the first complete liturgical performance of Fauré’s Requiem. Under the direction of Stephen Cleobury, the choir has faithfully recreated the 1889 premiere, even using the organ stops available to the organist at the Cathedrale de Ste. Madeleine in Paris.

Around two hundred have survived, and are an eloquent expression of his opinion that, “true music should be for the honor of God and the recreation of the soul”. This collection features three of Bach’s best-loved cantatas performed by the Magdalena Consort led by Peter Harvey. Vocal lines are sung one-to-a-part, in the style originally championed by Joshua Rifkin, which lends these performances an air of chamber music. Harvey, who also sings the bass part, is joined by soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, alto Daniel Taylor and tenor James Gilchrist.

In D major, the key of Beethoven’s and Brahms’s violin concertos, Busoni’s Violin Concerto is clearly intended to continue their lineage although it never descends into mere imitation. As a group, these pieces are a fascinating study, with most of the earlier works largely reflecting the Mozartean model, and the later ones revealing stylistic traits that anticipate future developments in the genre. KISHINO Irisation

IMPORT This collection provides insight into the sensitive and exciting sound aesthetics of the composer Malika Kishino. Nature and beauty constitute the Price Code: CA25 main points of reference of her oeuvre. Japanese (Suggested Retail Price: $25.98) culture and its aesthetics leave a mark on Kishino’s music, yet it is futile to look for anything reminiscent of the traditional music of her home country. Nature, especially optical and visual phenomena or physical states, are an inspiration for the structure and character of her works which she herself describes as sound organisms.

DOMESTIC SACD Hybrid/ Stereo/ DSD File in: Rock / Blues APO presents what must be the greatest Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute collection ever made. All are sourced from the original 30ips analog master tapes, and each album includes bonus tracks. APO’s packaging is beyond compare.
