Hannah Terrell

bio/letter

I have recently completed graduate school with my Master of Architecture degree at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana where I previously received my Bachelor of Architecture and minor in Interior Design. While at Louisiana Tech, I developed skills and talents in hand drafting, sketching, modeling, rendering, and many other digital tools. I am fluent in AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, Google Sketchup, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Rhinoceros. I have a great knowledge in materials and construction methods as well as hands-on experience through the design/build program in my undergraduate courses. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with many architecture firms, dealing with clients, visiting job sites, and contributing in design and production works. I believe my self-motivation, eagerness to learn and generate feedback from peers has set me apart from others. I am very motivated to learn more about design and architecture and its application outside of my education, which is why I’m writing to you today. I am a persistent, flexible, and patient person with a drive to succeed. I would love an opportunity to work for your office to gain an inside perspective as well as valuable trade knowledge from you and your peers. I would like to thank you in advance for your time and consideration when reviewing my attached resume and portfolio and I look forward to the opportunity of speaking with you soon. If you are not currently seeking new people to your team, I would still love the chance to speak with you during an informational interview and hopefully learn about your unique perspective on architecture design. Also, I would be happy to address any further questions you might have.

Internship Work

Summer 2012, 2013

For all of my internships, one of my many responsibilities was to create 3D renderings in Revit for presentations which we would show the clients. 3D graphics really has become a strength for me through these various opportunities.

Models and Craft

1st year Fall/Spring 2009

The two models presented are models in which I learned the importance of craft while also learning the abilities of light and shadow through materials and space.

Richard Long Museum Grad project The Richard Long Museum is a project I currently completed in my Graduate Program at Louisiana Tech. The design consists of not only a museum, but also an artist/residence studio. Richard Long’s work is based off of nature walks which he then takes the elements surrounding him in order to create his art. I incorporated the curculation to where it serves as the focus and overall form of the building. Starting out with a solid form, I then carved away voids based on the program within. The center void acts as the main circulation into the building, a passage through the site, and also a gallery space to see the artist residence artwork inside their studio spaces. One of Long’s widely known pieces is a circular piece made of pieces of stone. I incorporated this significant piece into the design by displacing it on the lower level directly below a spiral staircase going through the atrium space. While experiencing the building from the inside and outside, the art remains the main focus just like Richard Long’s walks through nature.

Internship Work ULM Ski Team Boathouse:

While I was working for Space Planners in 2012, I continued to do 3D renderings for numerous jobs for them while I was still in school. The university needed renderings to show at fundraisers in order to raise the money for the job. The client raised enough money and the project was completed Winter 2013.

Gardner Denver:

This project was the first one I was involved with when I started my internship at Land 3 Architects. The company headquarters is located in Monroe, Louisiana and was outdated. The company came to Land 3 in hopes of a remodel for the interior spaces. I was involved in the material choices and overall presentation to the client. After presenting the interior renderings, the client chose to go through with the design and they will begin the remodeling process Summer 2014.

Ouachita Parish Library:

All libraries in the Ouachita Parish area needed to be remodelled from the inside out. A total of 5 libraries were in the area and Land 3 Architects was the firm with the opportunity to do this project. I was honored to be involved in the actual design process of this project and also meet with each client for the initial walkthrough of the current spaces. The renderings will be used for a presentation in order to receive a grant to use towards the remodel.

Columbia Baptist Church:

The firm had been working on this project a few months before I arrived for my internship. The church needed a schematic design with renderings for a presentation board to use for fundraisers within the church to raise money for the addition.

Throughout the years at my internships, one of my main duties was to create 3D renderings for client presentations. With each job, I have gained more experience and knowledge with the Revit program in order to really produce the renderings needed for the project. The projects here are the ULM Ski Team Boathouse, Gardner Denver interior office rennovation, Ouachits Parish Public Library, and the Columbia Baptist Church addition. With all of these projects, I was involved in meeting with the clients and working with a team of individuals within the firms about layout, material choices, and overall design.
