Can you answer “yes” to any of these questions? • Since I had my kids I’ve lost sight of who I am • I feel guilty all the time • I love my kids but I want a life for myself as well • I want to be a good Mum but I feel like I’m getting it wrong • People keep telling me what to do and it’s making me question what I thought was right •

I’m determined that my life from now on will be better than it has been up to now

If you can, then I can help you. Whether you prefer • One-to-one private coaching • Online teaching • Live workshops I’d love to teach you how to understand yourself and make the most of yourself and your opportunities. Who Am I? I’m Cathy Dean and I’m here to teach you about yourself. If that sounds odd, let me explain: I have been blessed with skills, talents and innate abilities that allow me to help people

just like you to really come to know and understand yourself better than you ever have done before, so that you can live the life you really want. I developed my skills over a 25 year career in the field of Learning & Development and though working with lots of individual clients to hone my intuition. I’ve also spent the past 21 years bringing up my 2 children. I suffered for years from depression and when they were young I remember feeling like all the life had been sucked out of me, and I didn’t know who I was any more. I was trying so hard to be what I thought I ought to be, that I completely lost sight of who I really was, and that didn’t do me or my family any good at all. My children have grown up and left home, but I still vividly recall how it felt to have lost sight of myself. At the time I thought I was the only person who felt like that, but now I know better and I’m determined to ensure that noone else needs to feel like I used to. And that includes you.

I’d love to hear from you if you want to know more about what I do - please email me on cathy@colourinyourthinking.co.uk or say hello on Twitter to @colourfulcoach

Dads Spot

Ah, children! They say the sweetest things don’t they?

We went to the cinema one Saturday to see Tangled (which is great by the way and Charlotte now thinks she’s Repunzel!) and whilst we are sat there waiting for the film to start, Tom start’s pointing and say “what’s that?” I could see what he was pointing at until he stood up and almost touched the dad sat in front of us. He was referring to the mans bald patch! “What’s that on his head!?” Tom said louder. “Erm… his hair! Do you fancy a drink” and that was it we were off the subject, phew! Charlotte was just as bad (although she has improved with age) . When we were out, with no sensitive chip engaged, if she saw a larger framed person she would let us know, by shouting “Look at that woman/man aren’t they fat!” at which point we had to make a hasty exit from the scene. We did let her know this and that it’s not very polite to say things like that, but due to her age at the time we had to use a ‘code’ word. This word was ‘Wilbur’ So if you were out shopping and you saw a blond haired girl mention “I’ve just seen a Wilbur” then I apologise. Kids, eh!?

Handprints Bear LOVES… Jazzy Jamboree Handprints Bear was invited with a new friend Tilly to join in a class with Sarah in Old Sodbury Village Hall. This is certainly not your average children’s music class! It was fun; lively. We joined in with the ‘Shake It All About’ theme and we certainly did shake it all about and it was obvious from the children’s (and parent’s!) enthusiasm, that these are songs that they’ve all grown to know and love. The songs are a mixture of Sarah’s own and traditional favourites with a Jazzy Jamboree twist! Including a funky version of ‘Wind the Bobbin up’!

Splashing with Ping and Pong! Handprints Bear enjoyed reading one of our new favourite books with his friends, Charlotte, Thomas and Mummy – Ping and Pong, Splash. Ping and Pong live in Lucy’s clock and in this book they join Lucy on a trip to the park where they enjoy whizzing down the slide wooshing on the swings but most of all splashing in puddles when it starts to rain. Grown ups don’t like rain, but we do! Splash is such a delightful book, with adorable illustrations. Ping and Pong should become best friends with all

12

Handprints Magazine Spring 2011

children and all family bookcases should have at least one Ping and Pong book on their shelves. Splash will become a family favourite for bedtime reading – and any other time come to think of it!

And discovering animals in the jungle and the zoo With the brilliant At the Zoo and At the Farm books from Priddy Books. Fabulously fun shadow books which Handprints Bear and the family thoroughly enjoyed. So much fun guessing which animal is behind each shadow and a great way to learn animals, new words and explore the worlds of the farm and zoo. These books are read every day with a daily competition to see who can guess the most animals. Charlotte who is now 41/2 loves them too as she can practice her reading skills with the animal names.

To find out more and read the full reviews about the things Handprints Bear loves read his blog on www.handprintsmagazine.co.uk Jazzy Jamboree Sessions held in Old Sodbury and Frampton Coterall www.jazzyjamboree.co.uk info@jazzyjamboree.co.uk 07949 546862 Ping and Pong is written by Amy Trevaskus, a author based in Somerset. Make money - Save money We all need it, most of us want more of it and with costs rising every day how can you make more money and save more money? Here are some of our ideas.

Making Money Get a part time job: there are lots of opportunities out there now, from direct sales, party plans and some of them even mean you have fun while making money. Sell stuff online: Websites like ebay and 2good2tip are great for making money out of things you don’t need any more – and lets face it how many of us have a cupboard full of toys, clothes and baby equipment that we wish we could shift. Wheel and deal: Spring is the season for Car Boot Sales with plenty of sales sprouting up – just don’t spend the cash you earn while you are there! Make money from a hobby: Do you have a talent or do you have an enterprising spirit. There are plenty of opportunities to set up a business out of something you love, from Cupcakes to party bags, from entertaining to quirky crafts. Just make sure you get the right advice before you start. Music to your bank balance: Got a stack of old CDs you never play? Trade them in with online sites like Musicmagpie.co.uk, some are worth pennies some worth pounds. Gold value: If you have gold lying around in your jewellery boxes its never been a better time to sell. Dig out your 80’s hoop earrings to make yourself some easy cash.

Saving Money Switch utility suppliers: Shop around and make sure you are getting the best deal with your gas, electric and phone. You could save £££’s with a new supplier especially if you bundle them

Loyalty card bonus: Save your shopping points for a summer holidays and cash in for bonuses on days out and 2 for 1’s to save a packet on what can be expensive family days out. Get a cashback card: A cashback debit card can give you money back on your shopping, fancy going clothes shopping, food shopping and buying petrol and saving money on your utilities? Well this is the answer, save ££’s each month. Credit card shuffle: If you have a credit card make sure you are getting the best interest rate or pay it off each month. Shopping challenge: Next time you go grocery shopping do the trade down challenge, buy everything you like but pick the cheaper value products, do it for just a month and see if you notice the difference, you should in your wallet. One Car boot sale to look out for is at Charborough Road School, Filton SATURDAY 14 MAY - ENTRANCE 9AM SELLERS FEE £6 CAR, £8 VAN this is always well supported so a good place to make money! If you are thinking about setting up a new business you should contact an accountant – Ali Redwood from TaxAssist is a perfect match for small businesses especially Mumtrepreneurs. Fran Nash Smith can advise on profitable part time business opportunities that can work around existing work and families. See her advert on page 16
