Baby Belly announces third annual Beautiful Baby Belly Contest

Hamburg Journal8 9

To All Our Valued Customers, Readers & Friends, The first mention of the word golf, or gouf, was documented in 1457 in Scotland. King James II of Scotland prohibited the playing of golf, as he wanted his people to focus on archery, a more useful skill in a time of war. While the game of golf was wildly popular in Scotland from the 17th century and on, it didn’t gain momentum in other countries for another 200 years. The first permanent golf club in North America, Canada’s Royal Montreal Club, was founded in 1873. St. Andrews, one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States, was established as a 3-hole layout in 1888 in Yonkers, New York. During the next few years numerous 6-, 8-, 9- and 12-hole courses were opened in the eastern United States. The first 18-hole golf course in America, the Chicago Golf Club, was founded near Wheaton, Illinois, in 1893. From there, the game’s popularity spread to numerous countries around the world. There are more than 29 million golfers in the U.S. today, according to the National Golf Foundation (NGF.org and US Census as of 7/12).
