! o l l e H My name is Lauren Halford and I am a junior Interior Design Student at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. I am from Morganton, North Carolina but over the last four years Boone has become my second home. When I’m not working on projects or school work, I enjoy being in the outdoors. I love to go hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway and also in Linville Gorge. I love traveling to new places and experiencing different cultures. During my time at Appalachian, I have been very involved with clubs and organizations and a few part time jobs. Along with school work and classes, these activities have allowed me to develop strong time management and leadership skills. Design has taught me how to dive deeper into my work and create the best possible solution for a variety of tasks and users. I strive to build relationships with others and share my creativity everywhere I go.

Restaurant Design FALL 2019 REVIT

This project is a redesign of Tower Restaurant in Morrisville, North Carolina. The clients recently acquired the restaurant and they wanted to make the restaurant their own. The goal of this project was to redesign the interior of Tower Restaurant to create a more enjoyable space for guests and a more effective space for the waitstaff. The clients requested that a more effective waiting area be created and to move the buffet or make it more efficient with the flow of the restaurant and kitchen traffic. Most importantly, the clients wanted a new lighting plan to provide sufficient lighting solutions for both day and night.

RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

The goal of this project was to create an accessible home for a single family. The house includes an elevator for the convenience of any guest that might need assistance getting to the upper level of the home. There are also several landing spaces throughout the home for easy access and convenience. The home was built so that it is surrounded by nature and natural light flows into the house during the morning hours. The interior decor fits into the traditional, open farmhouse concept. All of the windows in the home help the space feel open and let in natural light.

COMMERCIAL DESIGN

REVIT

The goal of this project was to create a new office space for the Marketing and Communications Division of SpaceX. Their new office building will provide them with an abundance of sunlight, flexible use of space and environmental sensitivity and is in close proximity to Kennedy Space Center.

FLOOR PLAN

Studies show that open office plans increase collaboration, improves employee health and provides flexibility for the future. Bringing people together helps facilitate faster learning for new employees, builds trust and fosters new ideas in the office. COLLABORATION AREA PERSPECTIVE

RE-DESIGN FOR KATHERINE HARPER HALL LOBBY SUMMER 2018

SKETCH-UP

The goal of this project was to redesign the layout of the lobby of Katherine Harper Hall to make it a functional area for students. Katherine Harper Hall Lobby should be a place where students can come to relax between classes, have space to complete class work, and have access to community computers. By allowing “Brilliance Swings” into the center of Katherine Harper, the lobby will become a place where students can allow their creativity and design ability to flourish. Bubble Diagram

SOCIAL KIOSK

SUMMER 2018

SKETCH-UP

The goal of this project was to create a social kiosk for a non-profit organization that would raise awareness for their cause. My social kiosk was made for Filter of Hope. Filter of Hope is a non-profit organization that specializes in providing safe, clean drinking water to families in need worldwide. Although this project does not have a lot to do with Interior Design, it reflects my passion of helping others. Since 2018, I have had the pleasure of partnering with Filter of Hope in Haiti and in Cuba to help bring clean water to people in impoverished communities.

This kiosk is small and mobile for easy transport into different locations and is interactive for those who chose to engage in the filtration demonstration. The kiosk has three interactive stations where viewers can participate in assembling and cleaning the water filter and then observing the process of dirty water being transformed into clean drinking water.

INTERIOR + EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVE

On the back side of the kiosk, there is a world map that highlights all of the countries where Filter of Hope is currently making an impact. There is an area dedicated to fliers that have general information about Filter of Hope and a place for donations for those who chose to give. PERSPECTIVE OF EXTERIOR

MATERIALS & FINISH BOARD FOR SapceX

SPRING 2019

The goal of this project was to create a materials and finish board for the workstations and chairs that we used in the SpaceX project. For this project, I sought to find and use materials that would best explain and show what SpaceX is trying to accomplish - putting life on Mars. I used shades of orange, blue and green within my materials and finishes to convey the life on Mars that SpaceX is trying to achieve. The majority of the materials that I used for the Marketing and Communications division of SpaceX are environmentally friendly and many materials contribute to LEED certification standards. The color theory that I chose to best match my concept is split complementary. I sought inspiration from Horseshoe Bend in Arizona to try and convey how SpaceX is expanding their surface area onto Mars by using shades of blue, orange, and green.

MATERIALS & FINISH BOARD FOR TOWER RESTAURANT FALL 2019

The goal of this project was to create a materials and finish board for the restaurant interior including the main materials and finishes that we used in our redesign of Tower Restaurant in Morrisville, North Carolina. All materials and finishes were chosen to express the vibrant Indian culture that makes up Tower Restaurant. The red, blue, and yellow colors that are seen throughout the space bring liveliness into the restaurant for the guests to enjoy and express the true colors of India.
