I am Hairul Hamka. I am a designer in-the-making in the field of Interior Architecture & Design. I also aspire to be a graphic designer in the near future. I always give my best in doing the things i love to do. During my free time, i sketch and illustrate manually and digitally to improve my skills. I believe that the key to success is through failures. Throughout my educational life, I challenge myself to take greater risks and am daring to try out new things. I am not afraid of making mistakes and I always take them as learning points. In Architecture Design, I enjoy making models and producing renders. I also love doing concept sketches for my projects. My works are heavily inspired from great architects in the name of Daniel Libeskind and Zaha Hadid. I hope that my ideas and designs will come to life one day and are not just concepts on papers.

PROJECT TYPE: Adaptive Reuse THE CLIMB @ Dakora Crescent AREA: 8000 sqm DATE: 29 February 2018 LOCATION: Blk 12 Dakota Crescent

Dakota Crescent is one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates. The estate is currently awaiting development and will be redeveloped into a new housing estate for future generations to fond new and good memories. THE CLIMB @ Dakota Crescent is a Leisure & Recreational Hub where people and residents of all ages come together to bond and live a healthy lifetstlye. The concept behind this design is the idea of connecting the interior spaces to its surroundings throught the openess of the space, lack of walls and usage of transparent materials. At THE CLIMB, users are able to connect with one another regardless of the activity they are occupied with. Walking through the space, the users will feel connected and welcomed due to the openess of the architecture which makes way for necessary amount of light and air to enter the facility.

MAIN WALKWAY The main walkway stretches along the whole building to allow ease of access to all the functions and areas of the facility. As shown, the walkway is located at the back area of the building so as to not block the view of the interior from the front facade. The walkway is left opened to allow easy circulation of air and wind in and out of the facility.

ROCK CLIMBING AREA The rock/ boulder wall area was strategically placed in the middle of the whole design. I made use of the clearance height of the rock wall as an opportunity to create a double volume space which could allow convectional-currents flow up and down in the middle of the whole facility. Placing it in the middle also allows the users who are occupied with acitivities around it to be able to view it.

The cafe is also placed next to the rock wall so that diners can be entertained while dining.

THE FORM: The form was designed in such a way that it is two separate forms of architecture combing

into one, leading the one before to the one after. It starts with a very sharp and rigid looking form to reflect the idea of a cold solemn space for the Tunnel. The sharpness and straightness of the form reflects the seriousness of the topic which is extinction. The tunnel will decrease in height level as the visiors walk down the pathway. This is to reflect the idea of decrease in the number of species of animals. The pathway also gets narrower before the end so that the visitors will feel more anxious to leave the tunnel into the plaza area. The plaza area was designed to be more organic to reflect life. The smoothness of the architecture will make the visitors feel relax and calm as it is pleasing to the eyes.

EXHIBITION: Exhibition Extinction is

one of the three proposed exhibition for the design. The users will go through a series of exhibitions starting from EXTINCTION. Here, the users will be educated and informed about the seriousness of the topic of extinction through various interactive panels and exhibits. The exhibition includes a Thermal Screen Display that shows the world map and when a person waves his or her hand(s) across the screen, it will reveal the extinct animal(s) of that area. An Adjustable wall will showcase a timeline of major events that relates to Animal Extinction. The panels are fully adjustable to cater to the height of the readers. There are also wax replica figures of extinct animals being showcased in the space. The people will be able to learn about the animals through the brief discription card that can be found at the bottom right hand side of each capsule.

THE TUNNEL: It was designed to be very sharp and straight as the intention was to inform and give an im-

pression on the seriousness of the topic. The materials used are raw materials. Concrete was used as it gives of a cold and solemn feel to the space. The three big openings are strategically placed and designed to reflect “glimpse of light and life behind the dead and solemn space. The openings are all facing the greeneries of River Safari.

THE PLAZA: The area where visitors of River Safari queue and enter from was

designed to be a space of appreciation and life. Part of the plaza was strategically elevated so that they could see beauty of the site from another perspective. The third and final exhibition space was designed and link to the first two and it is being placed here at the plaza area so as to lead the visitors from the walkway to the plaza.
