As part of the Communications Leadership Development Program (CLDP), you’ll play an integral role driving success – for our country, our customer, our company and yourself.

Rotations The CLDP is an intensive twoyear rotational program that gives participants experience in four facets of communication: media relations, marketing, employee communications and community relations. How does it work? Participants spend one year focused on employee communications and community relations – followed by a rotation at a different business area focused on marketing and media relations. Lockheed Martin supports your transition to a new location for participant growth. Why? You’ll see entirely new programs, take on a fresh set of challenges, expand your personal network and walk away with best practices from each location.

Professional Development In addition, participants attend two corporate-wide conferences focused on professional development. You’ll meet participants in the sister programs of the other disciplines – Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Operations and Security – and take workshops, listen to executive speakers and get to know one another. We also offer one week-long conference focused just on communications at our corporate headquarters. There, you’ll meet our function’s leaders and discuss the most pressing issues of the day. You may take an intensive media training workshop or learn speechwriting tips from a former presidential speechwriter. You’ll have the opportunity to engage and learn.

After CLDP The CLDP is an opportunity – it is what you make of it! At the end of a twoyear stint in the program, participants identify open positions and interview competitively for them. Successful participants typically find an off-program assignment that suits their career goals.

What We’re Looking For •

Strong educational background, including a degree in a relevant field (e.g. journalism, public relations, communication) from an accredited college or university, and a minimum GPA of 3.3

Substantive prior internship or work experience in public relations, with strong, demonstrated writing skills

Understanding of the various components of a PR campaign and how to create a strong communications plan

Great interpersonal skills, agility, integrity, desire for future leadership roles, energy, flexibility, with a willingness to relocate

Relevant communications leadership experience (e.g. PRSSA)

Consistent demonstration of leadership behaviors (taking on leadership roles in projects and practical experience)

Application Process Lockheed Martin begins its CLDP recruiting process in the fall of each year. After an initial interview, a small number of selected candidates will advance to a final-round hiring event in the metropolitan DC area. Those hired will begin employment in the summer.
