HAIG POINT AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP The South Carolina State Combo Championship was held in November on Hilton Head Island and as usual, Haig Point was well-represented. Debbie Hull was a member of a team that won one of the state titles, winning 65+, 7.5 division.
DEC EM B ER HAPPENI NG S | HA I G P OIN T REINDEER ROUND ROBIN Our annual benefit for the Deep Well Fund will be held on Friday, December 9 from 10:00 - 12:00 at the Haig Point Tennis Center. The entry fee will be minimum $20.00 donation to the Deep Well Fund. Be sure to bring your favorite Christmas cookies for the cookie exchange following the tennis. Special raffle items will be sold to benefit the charity. Entry will be via the club website. KEEP IT SIMPLE The volley should be simple and foolproof. Just stick your racquet out and hit the ball back over the net. But it’s not that easy. You have to contend with the incoming ball, the position of your opponents, and your target. Keep the following points in mind and your volleys will become better:

1. Recognize the ball you are about to hit is descending. Therefore, you must hit with a slightly opened racquet face to have the ball clear the net.

2. The power on the volley will come from your weight transfer - the lower body moving forward - more than the upper body hitting the ball. 3. Relax your grip. You will find it much easier to center the racquet in the path of the ball when your arm is relaxed and able to make small adjustments in its position. Nancy Kimball
