Tanks to fill not kill

Fidelis Group with Woollies with a Mission for Tools with a Mission* After several busy months the Fidelis project,WAM for TWAM*, came to an end. One very cold morning the ladies set aside their knitting needles to deliver the results of their effort, over 50 tank tops, to the TWAM HQ in Ipswich. Volunteer, Martin Humphries, was delighted to receive the brightly coloured jumpers and thanked the group for their useful contribution. A tour of the vast premises revealed an unexpected Aladdin’s Cave of donated items plus a dedicated band of volunteers making the ‘tools’ fit for use and shipment to specific destinations in Africa. The tank tops, which initially will be used to fill the spaces between the tools and craftsman’s kits in the container, will eventually be distributed to local children. The tools and kits will be used to give adults a skill with which they can earn a living, support their family and make a small contribution to the next TWAM consignment. The volunteer work witnessed in that unassuming but freezing warehouse touched everyone in the group. Feeling chilled to the bone we repaired to Glasswells for lunch. Over a warm drink many resolved to extend and expand the WAM for TWAM project to include a collection of appropriate tools as a well as more knitted ‘tanks’ to fill the spaces. TWAM 01473 210220.
