Breitling is one of the world’s most renowned Swiss watchmakers, and one of the last remaining independent Swiss watch brands. It has been privately owned since it was founded in 1884, and to this day still designs and builds all its movements in-house. Since its founding, many famous sailors, explorers, divers and even astronauts have made Breitling their timepiece of choice. Astronaut Scott Carpenter was famously pictured wearing a Breitling Cosmonaute inside the Aurora 7 spacecraft in 1962. The certification comes from the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres, or the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute, in English (or COSC), which is considered the world’s benchmark in incredibly accurate mechanical movements.
