PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Unite for Good.
Did you know that in the last calendar year, America's credit unions provided their members nationwide with $6 billion in financial benefits? That's an average of $121 per member household according to Credit Union National Association's economics and statistics department. Credit unions save members money by charging lower interest rates on loans and paying higher interest or dividends on deposit accounts and investments. They also charge fewer and lower fees. So the more you use your credit union, the more you save. Consider this: Financing a $25,000 new car for 60 months at HealthCare Associates would save you an average of $231 per year in interest expense compared to what you would pay at a banking institution. That's approximately $1,000 in savings over five years. And we pay higher interest on money market accounts than the average bank does. Financially savvy consumers overwhelmingly choose credit unions as their preferred institutions, according to a recent GoBankingRates.com poll. Credit unions still have more work to do, however, as a more general survey found that credit unions are still far from being the average person's primary financial institution. We conducted our own member survey in August and the results were similar, with 85% of members either highly satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the Credit Union overall. However, when asked, “Do you consider HealthCare Associates Credit Union as your primary financial institution for your banking needs?” 45% of the responses said yes and 55% said no. The feedback we got will help us make your credit union an even healthier way to bank—and hopefully your primary financial institution. A cultural shift is happening in America that aligns perfectly with the credit union movement. It's a move toward values-based decision-making. A move away from big corporations and big banks. If you’re one of the many Americans looking for an alternative in financial services, then please look to HealthCare Associates as your best financial partner. Together, we – credit unions and members alike – must unite for good.

CONGRATULATIONS to our recent email collection contest winner, Karen M., who won an iPad mini courtesy of HACU. "Who knew when my husband and I opened our account
with HACU we would still be with your Credit Union in the " 21st Century"? We joined HACU in the 1980's when our old bank changed owners 3 times in a year. The fees began to add up and we didn't know ANY of the staff. HACU was within walking distance of my job and I liked the Associates who we got to "know" over the years. Diane, Barb and Todd have now all retired but they were always there to help with our checking, savings and loans. We used almost all the services and they helped and guided us through all the processes without problems. There is nothing like having a person to talk to....face to face. We still like to visit the branch office and visit with our banking associates Carrie, Marilyn, Rosa and Valerie but with direct deposit and PAM we can bank in our slippers and pajamas.... you gotta love this new century woohoo!" Keep up the great service, Karen M.

Whether on a small or large scale, doing good is something credit unions take seriously. Some large credit unions are able to pull together funding from millions of members to improve housing, healthcare, and education in local communities and the world. Be it in the form of scholarships or interest-free loans, it’s still people helping people.
