Hymn to details

The East area of Utrecht consist of many structures. They make each other complete and break with each other. Gerrit Rietveld was somebody that has broken with the current structure. You can think of ‘’ The Rietveld Schöderhuis. This house had/have another structure and appearance than his surrounding. With the positioning of the ‘’Rietveld Schöderhuis’’, did Rietveld a ‘’boyish prank ‘’ through my eyes. He breaks with the structure and organization, that’s what makes his design unique, stirring and even a little bit contrarious.

16.

I looked at the East area of Utrecht through the eyes of a ‘rascal’ and I documented everything what I associate with a ‘’rascal’’. These are especially details (small discoveries that make places in the area different than others). The details ‘ the boyish pranks’ are making the area unique, you’re looking with an eye for detail towards the area and discover new insights.

NR. 14

NR. 14 is the name of a project for the subject visual arts on HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. The assignment was: Build a shelter somewhere in the building where you fit in. I had my eyes on a small space nex t to the elevator, with two lines of expired lockers. Nine of the ten lockers were locked, but one was open. Locker NR. 14 that belongs to a women Kathelijna Hess. She was and ex-student Illustration on HKU University of the Arts Utrecht in 1999. We want to bring a Hymn to this locker NR. 14. We based our shelter on this spontaneous discovery. The parts of the shelter fit into the expired locker NR. 14. The user can discover the place, read the story in the locker behind the project and build the shelter.

Our shelter consist of a three meter long curtain, that cover-ups the space with the two lines of ex pired lockers. You see the surrounding through the holes in the curtain.

The shaped surfaces are based on the element of the numbers; one and four. The colour of the curtain is in contrast with the grey surrounding. In the surrounding of the expired lockers, people al ways walked by. With this shelter we want people to stand still by expired objects and experience our spontaneous discovery.

The pearl of Amersfoort, documentary

2 7 .

In this social Design project in the city Amersfoort. I made a connection between the station area and city centre. The big difference is: the City cente r is really characteristic, has many elements from the medieval in the architecture and surrounding. They have in common, that they are sharing a lot of secret stories, from the past till the present. Sometimes you have to look further than you eyes will see and just do a social interaction. With that sentence in my mind I did my own social interaction. This was leading to a documentary and a moveable.

A moveable made for the city Amersfoort. ‘’Sometimes you have to look further than you eyes will see’’. Today we rush form place to place, without realizing what happens in our surrounding. With this moveable you find out the secret stories in the surrounding from the station area till the city center, with the hidden, transparant signboards in the moveable. You hold the signboard in front of the object you see and you will discover the story behind it.

Lostness

A Photo and story project. We lost our way in the woods next to a little town in Czech Republic called Vápno. With a camera we had taken pictures when we were on our way. When we got lost, we saw on the pictures the landmarks and indication point that we found. With this assistance we found our way back. Our project is based on this journey “our story’’ and is connecting to the metaphor on the poster.

Lostness ‘

‘The state of being lost”

What is the state of being lost? No one can see, hear or feel you. You feel isolated by surrounding, your alone. Follow us on our journey of being lost, but think about it: How many people right now experience ‘‘This feeling’’ of lostness everyday. They live in a world of loneliness and insecurity. They don’t have a place to go. What to do in an place that don’t excist? Remember all the good things that come on your path. Imagine and remember your way back.

‘’Let it be’’ A visual art project, in an extinct soviet army base. We based our story on this army base and made two installations. The audience can see them through the windows and cracks in the building. We found this building in the Area of Ralkso, it was hal f demolished and left alone. We as ked ourself this question: Why did people stop with what their doing at one point and just go away? It was the unknowing thing that creeps in our mind. What had happened ? We give the unknowing shapes, almost like creatures. -It’s a new inhabitant of the place. -The appearance is something you’ve never seen before. -Can you trust it? Will it harm you or will it bring peace, when you connect with it? -It’s alive but it doesn’t move in our familiar way, it is justing being. We created two installations. The soul of the past, made from rubber tubes a human material found on the location. It’s protecting itself and said the humans tried to destroy the past, but the soul of the past is still there. So let it be. The future of the soul, made from natural material found on the location. The nature has almost taken over the living. The past has almost be forgotten, but don’t deny the past and let it be.
