History of Palm Springs Palm Springs is best known for its resorts and its mid-century modern architecture. One of the most recognized house style in the area is the Eichler. The Eichler is named after real-estate developer Joseph Eichler. According to Josephs son, Eichler wanted to bring mid-century modern architecture and customization to residential homes. Eichler was inspired by the architect of the home he had lived in, Frank Lloyd Wright. Eichler worked with many architects through his projects to bring his vision to life. Palm Springs has a history of being a prime vacation destination. Old Palm Springs would draw thousands of students on spring break, it had a reputation for being a fun party spot. Their resorts drew tourists from all around the country but due to complaints from locals this was shut down in the 1990’s. Today it still draws large amounts of tourists.
Concept Development To fit Ted’s taste and fulfill his needs I researched old Palm Springs and was inspired by retro Palm Springs travel posters. The color scheme matches the old Palm Springs style and the materials chosen reflect Ted’s luxurious taste. To appeal to a renter there are 2 master baths, each with a walk-in closet and their own washer and dryer. Each room has a sitting area in the bedroom. One bathroom includes a walk-in shower as well as a bathtub, the other includes a walk-in shower. There are tall cabinets along the length of the southern wall in the Living room area to provide ample storage and a drop area when entering the home. The style of the furnishings stays true to the mid century modern style of the home.
