2025-26 St. Bonaventure bonnies

Senior forward Frank Mitchell posted 20 points and 11 rebounds as the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team defeated Canisius, 89-70, on Saturday (Nov. 8) afternoon at the Reilly Center. Mitchell played for the Golden Griffins from 2022-24.
Mitchell shot 9-of-14 from the field and added an assist and a block to his stat line en route to the 19th double-double of his career.
Twelve of Mitchell’s 20 points came in the second half, and the big man was 5-for-5 from the field after the break.
Mitchell’s double-double was reminiscent of his time with the Golden Griffins. He had 15 double-doubles during the 202324 season while averaging 12.1 points and a MAAC-best 11.6 rebounds per game.
“It’s just another game. Obviously, as a former Griff, it feels good to beat them now that Reggie (Witherspoon) is not there,” Mitchell said after the game, giving a shoutout to his former coach with Canisius. “It’s just a game, like I said. My team believed in me,

my coaches believed in me and gave me the keys and found me. That’s all it is.”
Early on in 2025-26, Mitchell leads the Atlantic 10 in rebounding, with 10.0 per game through two contests.
The Bonnies have dominated the boards through two games, outrebounding opponents 86 to 51. St. Bonaventure has grabbed over 40 rebounds in both games, something the Bonnies had done just five times in the last three full seasons combined.
St. Bona’s has excelled at creating extra possessions through offensive rebounds, grabbing 35 offensive boards through two games.
The Bonnies’ 20 offensive rebounds against Canisius (Nov. 8) were the most in a single game by St. Bonaventure since Feb. 11, 2012, when SBU defeated Duquesne, 69-48, at the Reilly Center.
SBUs total of 44 rebounds against Bradley (Nov. 3) was the most rebounds in a game by the Bonnies since December of 2022.

The Bonnies have excelled at defending the rim during the early portion of the season. St. Bonaventure ranks 36th in Division I with 6.0 blocked shots per game. Joe Grahovac leads the team with five blocks on the season, while freshman Andrew Osasuyi trails closely behind with three blocks despite playing just 13.5 minutes per game.
St. Bonaventure’s pair of Italian freshmen were feeling the love in their first game at the Reilly Center on Saturday (Nov. 8).
Guard Achille Lonati recorded 13 points and two assists off the bench while shooting 5-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-6 from threepoint range. He entered the game hot, scoring eight of the Bonnies’ 12 points during his first six minutes of game time.
Meanwhile, Osasuyi recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. He was extremely efficient on the afternoon, shooting 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-5 from the foul line.
The two freshmen, who grew up just a few dozen kilometers apart in northern Italy, will be key contributors off the bench for the Bonnies throughout the season.
St. Bonaventure’s bench depth was on full display on Saturday, scoring a season-high 31 bench points. The total was the most bench points in a single game by a St. Bonaventure team since March 14, 2024, when the Bonnies took down Loyola Chicago in the Atlantic 10 Tournament Quarterfinals (75-74, 2OT).
Lonati (13 points), Osasuyi (10 points), and Amar’e Marshall (8 points) were the only three bench players to check in on the afternoon.
The three new Bonnies -- all playing in their first game in the Reilly Center -- shot a combined 64.7 percent from the field (11-for-17) and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc (5-for-11).

Zingaro picked up two key wins in a dominant victory over Little Three rival Canisius on Friday evening.
A native of Varese, Italy, his first victory came in the 50-free as he clocked in at 20.88. He bolstered his resume for the day with a first-place finish in the 100-free (45.84).
Zingaro’s season-best time in the 50-free (20.61), which he achieved against Fordham, currently sits as the fourth-best mark in the Atlantic 10. His top mark this year in the 100free, a time of 45.49 at Niagara, ranks seventh in the conference.
Forjan claimed plenty of victories on Friday evening, helping the women’s team to a massive lead of its own over the Golden Griffins.
The Mezotur, Hungary native found individual success with wins in the 200-free (1:53.77) as well as the 200-back (2:03.28). She then helped to propel the team even further in relay action, swimming important legs of victories in the 200-medley relay (1:44.58) and the 200free relay (1:36.03).
Forjan’s mark against Canisius in the 200-free currently ranks as the ninth-best time in the A-10. She also holds a top-two time in the conference in the 200-back as she clocked in at 2:00.13 at Niagara.
Both student-athletes will get their next chances to perform on Nov. 20 as they begin the Magnus Cup.

Despite leaving preseason workouts just a few weeks in, St. Bonaventure women's basketball team members Ivona Djikanovic and Iva Corluka got plenty of basketball action in this summer.
“Those events are truly some high-level basketball,” said Kelcie Rombach, Bonnies assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. “While they weren't physically on campus, what they brought back with them in experience and physicality has really benefited them.”
Djikanovic played seven games for the U-20 Serbian National Team, averaging 22.4 minutes and chipping in 8.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per game all on the way to winning the FIBA U-20 Women’s EuroBasket Division B silver medal.
“This year, we won every game except one in the finals. We finished in second place, but we got back to the A Division,” Djikanovic said.
In six games for the Croatian U-18 National team, Corluka averaged 4.5 rebounds with 1.5 assists over 12.1 minutes per game.
Representing a nation is something both athletes take pride in.
“People don't really take it as serious, but you're playing for the flag,” Djikanovic said. “You're playing for your people and the whole country.”
For Corluka, despite growing up in New York, since Corluka's grandparents are from Croatia, she has dual citizenship. This makes representing the Croatian flag mean more to the Bonnies freshman.
“I grew up watching the Croatian soccer team in the World Cup, and I always thought it would be a really cool experience to be able to do that,” she said.
There are many differences in the international game compared to the game in the states. Some of these different experiences figure to help the new Bonnies when they don the Bonaventure colors this season.
“I think the difference is internationally it's more physical and strategic,” Djikanovic stated.
“The way Europeans play basketball, there's a lot of ball movement and space,” Rombach said. “They bring some of that high basketball IQ that fits well into how we play.”
Corluka won NYSSWA Class A Player of the Year as a high school senior as well as helping Ardsley High School win the State Championship. She also represented the U-17 Croatian team.
“We play a lot more games than the international kids do,” Corluka said. “In AAU, you play like six games a weekend while internationally they're practicing six times a week for one game.”
For Corluka and Djikanovic their roads to international competition were different.
“There was this coach from Serbia that called me, and I played last year for U-20. I played up,” Djikanovic said. “This year we had a whole new coach and staff, and they watched the games from last year and liked what they saw and asked me to come back and play for them.”
Corluka’s route looked different.
“I just happened to follow the coach of the team on Instagram, and I have a friend who's also from New York. She played there, and the coach asked her, ‘you know this girl?’” said Corluka. “‘Tell her dad to call me.’”
In an effort to help the freshmen transition, the coaching staff had them come in early.
“I came here a month before everybody, and I had to get to know my coaches and work out with them individually and just get to see how the system works,” Djikanovic stated.
Corluka and Djikanovic took the floor for the first time with the Bonnies when they hosted Daemen Wednesday, Oct. 29 in the Brown and White’s exhibition contest.
