“The RSP Certificate and the RSP Authorization on the Education Specialist Credential authorizes providing resource services across all disability areas. However, a local employing agency may determine through the IEP process that an individual needs to hold an additional authorization.� Ensuring Educator Excellence

Level I/Level II credentials—only for the Moderate/Severe and the Early Childhood Special Education specialty areas

Preliminary/Clear credentials—preparation for all seven specialty areas include autism content and all specialty areas authorize teaching students on the autism spectrum

Added Authorization in Autism Spectrum Disorder—maybe added to any special education credential that does not already authorize teaching students on the autism spectrum Ensuring Educator Excellence

ASDAA Standard 1: Characteristics of ASD The program provides opportunities for the candidate to be able to identify the unique characteristics of students with ASD. The candidate demonstrates unique knowledge of cognition and neurology and the core challenges associated with language and communication, social skills, behavior, and processing and their implications for program planning and service delivery. ASDAA Standard 2: Teaching, Learning, and Behavior Strategies for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder The program ensures that each candidate is able to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to become proficient in implementing evidence-based and multifaceted methodologies and strategies necessary in teaching and engaging students with ASD from acquisition through generalization. ASDAA Standard 3: Collaborating with Other Service Providers and Families

The program will ensure that each candidate teaching students with ASD is able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team with all service providers and effectively interact with families.

Communication Development has transitioned to Language and Academic Development Education Specialist Preliminary Language and Academic Development Regulatory process began in January 2011 Regulations may be completed by fall 2011 Ensuring Educator Excellence

No longer distinct Level II programs—ONE Clear Induction program

If after completing a Clear Induction Program an individual completes a Preliminary program in another specialty area—the individual will earn a Clear credential
