WHAT TO EAT / WHERE TO DRINK

The Houston Rodeo is full of inventive, indulgent and Instagramworthy bites. From the classic Texas-sized turkey legs and funnel

cakes, to the deep-fried Oreo cookies and flamin’ hot cheetos roasted corn on the cob - you are going to be in concession heaven. For bonus points, try the Fruity Pebbles Shrimp on a Stick and post it on IG. #ExploreHOU

Wine enthusiasts will want to head to Champion Wine Garden, located at Carruth Plaza at NRG Park. With live music, 70 wines to choose from, and reservations for parties of all sizes (yes, even just for you and a +1).

CARNIVAL

You know how they say everything is bigger in Texas? It’s also way better. While you peruse the carnival grounds, take a pit stop and jump one of the 80+ rides that are integral to your Rodeo experience. Take in the views of Houston from the La Grande XL Ferris wheel, featuring 36 air-conditioned cabins with enough room for four people. Prefer

CALF SCRAMBLE

The Calf Scramble is a hilariously entertaining event where Texas 4-H and FFA members compete to catch a calf. The calves are released and run in every direction while the students chase them about trying their hardest to catch one. The program has raised more than $14 million in certificates and awards for more than 21,000 students.

BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life delivers a breathtaking encounter with the inner workings of the human body and

shows the effects of poor health, good health and lifestyle choices. In addition to showcasing the wonders of human development, the 100+ preserved human specimens – including whole-body plastinates – demonstrate the complexity, resilience and vulnerability of the human body in distress, disease and optimal health. In the exhibition, designed by BODY WORLDS’ creative and conceptual designer,

Dr. Angelina Whalley, visitors will follow the human body through the span of time and learn about the latest findings in anatomy, longevity and health

All specimens presented are preserved through Plastination, an advanced scientific technique invented by pioneering anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens, which allows specimens to be preserved indefinitely for educational purposes

in teaching institutions as well as exhibitions. Dr. von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS exhibitions stem from a body donation program established in the early 1980s that is managed by the Institute for Plastination.

THE KING’S HEAD PUB

Richmond Arms is a lively, oldfashioned pub, complete with seasonal brews, too many beers on tap to count and a bevy of Celtic accents ringing throughout the establishment. Even during the week, an evening here feels like an Irish beer advertisement, “Lots of British nationals” feel at home in this “authentic” Briargrove area pub that some claim is the closest thing to England “this side of the big pond”; “wood beams and red accents” and a “friendly staff” greet “serious game fans”, who come for the “great beer selection” and pub grub, plus darts and regular trivia nights.

Bona fide dance hall, backyard, kitchen and community space, the Armadillo Palace is a one-ofa-kind tribute to all things Texas — and to the city that’s been so good to us for generations. When you think southern comfort, you’re thinking of authentic Mexican, true Houston BBQ and seafood from the waters of the Gulf. With meat hot off the wood cooker and brews fresh from the tap, you’ll want to stay not only for breakfast, but for lunch and dinner. Find your dancin’ boots and pop the top off an ice-cold beer. The flavor of Mexico and the spirit of the South,.

The King’s Head Pub hails back to royal Britannia with a classic wood features, a large stone fireplace, a portrait of King Henry VIII. The pub features a full outdoor patio area, and over 5000 square feet of seating area with plenty of parking space. Serving authentic English food including Scotch eggs, Sausage rolls, and Ploughman’s Platters as well as great pizzas and other pub grub. Beers on draft (pardon, draught) include a mix of locals like Saint Arnolds, Buffalo Bayou and Karbach alongside imported faves like Smithwick’s, Boddingtons, Harp and Newcastle. Happy Hour Mon-Fri 4 - 7.
