The installation is based on the Emmy Award-winning “Space Explorers: The ISS Experience,” the largest ever media project to be filmed in space, produced by Felix & Paul Studios together with TIME Studios. “’The Infinite’ is a 12,500-square-foot [1,160-square-meter] exhibition and inside of that you have a 6,000-square-foot [650-square-meter] free roaming virtual reality experience — and that is a life-size recreation of the International Space Station,” said Félix Lajeunesse, cofounder and creative director of Felix & Paul Studios, in an interview

with collectSPACE. Up to 150 people at a time, each wearing virtual reality (VR) headsets, can walk around the virtual ISS and go inside and outside the space station in “The Infinite.” “As they discover that environment, they will see floating hotspots that they can activate with their avatar, and that will reveal a cinematic virtual reality scene that has been filmed on the real ISS from the exact vantage point where you are in the virtual ISS. BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life delivers a breathtaking encounter with the inner workings of the human body and shows the effects of poor health, good health and lifestyle choices. In addition to showcasing the wonders of human development, the 100+ preserved human specimens – including whole-body plastinates – demonstrate the complexity, resilience and vulnerability of the human body in distress, disease and optimal health. In the exhibition, designed by BODY WORLDS’ creative and conceptual designer, Dr. Angelina Whalley, visitors will follow the human body through the span of time and learn about the latest findings in anatomy, longevity and health All specimens presented are preserved through Plastination, an advanced scientific technique invented by pioneering anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens, which allows specimens to be preserved indefinitely for educational purposes in teaching institutions as well as exhibitions. Dr. von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS exhibitions

stem from a body donation program established in the early 1980s that is managed by the Institute for Plastination. exhibition that opens at the MFAH, its only U.S. venue. Incomparable Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has been curated exclusively for this presentation. The extraordinary collection of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist work traces the evolution of the radical movement, from its roots in the novel, naturalistic landscapes of Jean-BaptisteCamille Corot, Charles Francois Daubigny, and other painters of the Barbizon School; to the early “optical color” experimentations in plein-air landscape painting by Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Alfred Sisley; to the frank depictions of modern urban life by Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet, and Henri de Toulouse-

Lautrec. The exhibition brings together paintings from the 19th and early 20th century, assembled in nine thematic groupings. Among the highlights is a breathtaking display of 16 canvases by Monet featuring his most beloved sites. Also included are Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s life-size Dance at Bougival, with its swirling evocation of modern café life; Monet’s luminous Grainstack (Snow Eect); and Degas’s empathic double portrait of his sister, Thérèse, and her husband, Edmondo Morbilli. An integral aspect of the exhibition is a fascinating selection of works on paper showcasing the artists’ working methods..

THE NMFH INVITES YOU TO EXPLORE ITS NEWEST EXHIBIT

JAZZ FUNERALS OF NEW ORLEANS The National Museum of Funeral History is proud to announce the opening of its 16th permanent exhibit, Jazz Funerals of New Orleans. “We are very excited to be able to present this exhibit that highlights the history and culture of jazz funerals unique to New Orleans to the American people,” stated Bob Boetticher, Sr., Chairman of the National Museum of Funeral History. “New Orleans has a rich and fascinating history. The convergence of the French, Spanish and British who colonized the area paired with the West African tribes from the domestic slave trade in the early 1900s, significantly attributed to this colorful culture.” Other influences in the early twentieth century include the Mardi Gas Indians, and the African American Protestant churches. They celebrated with their black brass bands after a loved one’s death to please the spirits who protect the dead. From all of this, a new style of music emerged – jazz. Which funeral bands quickly adopted, and New Orleans jazz funerals were born. Boetticher said, “Today’s jazz funerals adhere to a strictly defined parade structure. Once the funeral wake ends, the band accompanies the family from the funeral home or church. It leads its way to the cemetery, sometimes using a horse-

drawn hearse. The group, also known as ‘the first line,’ play somber funeral dirges and traditional spiritual hymns.” The parade master, dressed formally wearing a lavish sash, a black hat, and sometimes includes a decorative parasol, typically leads the procession as it makes its way past major thoroughfares and down the neighborhood streets of New Orleans. “After interring the deceased in the family crypt, a significant change in tempo takes place,” Boetticher added. “The family members and friends say their final goodbyes, and afterwards, the funeral band launches into rousing, upbeat tunes such as “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Onlookers who join in behind the riveting funeral band, are called the “second line.” The second line is encouraged to join in the rolling excitement and, they usually perform a strutting dance step that carries the participants forward in pace with the band. Although the majority of jazz funerals are for musicians, anyone can request one. Sidney Bechet, the renowned New Orleans jazzman, once said, “Music is as much a part of death as it is of life.” The jazz funeral today still plays an integral part of the rich heritage of New Orleans and will continue on for generations to come.

RICHMOND ARMS PUB

YOU’VE NEVER SEEN TEXAS LIKE THIS

THE KING’S HEAD PUB

Richmond Arms is a lively, oldfashioned pub, complete with seasonal brews, too many beers on tap to count and a bevy of Celtic accents ringing throughout the establishment. Even during the week, an evening here feels like an Irish beer advertisement, “Lots of British nationals” feel at home in this “authentic” Briargrove area pub that some claim is the closest thing to England “this side of the big pond”; “wood beams and red accents” and a “friendly sta” greet “serious game fans”, who come for the “great beer selection” and pub grub, plus darts and regular trivia nights.

Bona fide dance hall, backyard, kitchen and community space, the Armadillo Palace is a one-ofa-kind tribute to all things Texas — and to the city that’s been so good to us for generations. When you think southern comfort, you’re thinking of authentic Mexican, true Houston BBQ and seafood from the waters of the Gulf. With meat hot o the wood cooker and brews fresh from the tap, you’ll want to stay not only for breakfast, but for lunch and dinner. Find your dancin’ boots and pop the top o an ice-cold beer. The flavor of Mexico and the spirit of the South,.

The King’s Head Pub hails back to royal Britannia with a classic wood features, a large stone fireplace, a portrait of King Henry VIII. The pub features a full outdoor patio area, and over 5000 square feet of seating area with plenty of parking space. Serving authentic English food including Scotch eggs, Sausage rolls, and Ploughman’s Platters as well as great pizzas and other pub grub. Beers on draft (pardon, draught) include a mix of locals like Saint Arnolds, Bualo Bayou and Karbach alongside imported faves like Smithwick’s, Boddingtons, Harp and Newcastle. Happy Hour Mon-Fri 4 - 7.
