Early Christians were called followers of “the Way”. But what is it? And what is a Christian life? Here are seven memorable keys for living the new life of a Christian. Three beliefs that form the way you see life. Four practices that shape the way you live it. One: The one central message of Jesus. Seek after God’s Kingdom – His ways, His beauty, His life – before anything else. Two: The two greatest commands: Love God, Love others. Three: The three ways we know God: as Father, as Son, as Spirit.
Four: Four ways to be formed: Prayer, Scripture, Community, Worship. Five: Displaying God’s life in what is seen, heard, touched, felt and tasted. Whole life following. Six: Walking the Way in the six days of Monday to Saturday. Seven: The seventh day of rest. Living a life of balance and rhythm. These will be the basis of our teaching in 2013, and a resource for the future. We will unpack some of these themes in more detail throughout the year.
You can use these in various ways: Personally, as a way of praying about your walk with God. In groups, perhaps by focusing on one area at the beginning of a meeting, helping and praying for each other about it. With someone else, by using these seven keys to support and challenge each other. As a journey for helping a new Christian(s), using the growing resources on our website as a basis for discipling and mentoring. With thanks to Richard Wilson for this outline.
