They explore the process of making forms and giving meanings to those forms. In this idea art, their focus is as often social and psychological as artistic. Bart worked on this film in his New York days and was there for an amazing Laurie Andersen performance. 6:15PM Animated Shorts Set Set Spike Emily Hubley A single mother’s personal ritual combines her history, poetry and a volleyball-inspired aerobic workout. The piece uses animated and live-action footage to create a kind of temporal collage where past and present emotional truths coexist and play. I Am So Proud of You Don Hertzfeldt Dark family secrets cast a shadow over Bill’s recovery, in this second chapter to Don Hertzfeldt’s ‘Everything will be OK.’ The film was single-handedly animated and photographed by hand without the use of computers. It was shot entirely on an antique 35mm animation stand, one of the last remaining cameras of its kind left in America.

Animated Shorts (continued) Lezzieflick Nana Swiczinsky Lezzieflick is a deconstructive remix of stereotypical representations of lesbian sex in hetero porn. Body forms become fluid; the women no longer appear to be available as the passive object of voyeuristic desire. The content of the image as well as the usual position of the subject are shifted. The material of the film appears to dissolve in satisfaction. Missed Aches Joanna Priestley A comedic animated work all bout dyslexia and how spell check has ruined his life. 7:00pm Life Stories Umbrella Ryan Kline, Director Can a lonely teacher find love? This short silent film follows a lonely teacher who finds a friend with the help of a rain shower and an umbrella. Hot Route Casey Gooden One weekend warrior takes his battle too far and threatens to derail an otherwise friendly game of football. Words Unspoken Renee O’Conner, Director Excellent short film. Renee O’Conner (Gabrielle of Xena: Warrior Princess) plays the sister of the main character. The film deals with the legal and social consequences of honoring the final wishes of others. 7:30PM Life Cycle Overlays Justin Lincoln Part of an ongoing series of videos concerning the director’s son Kai, combining home recordings of Kai as an infant and at age 3 with manipulated footage of the director’s morning train commute in Osaka, Japan. The soundtrack uses a basic electronic tone step sequencer. Edited and mixed at the Experimental Television Center, Oswego New York Summer 2009.

Life Cycle (continued) Remember Jane Terry Memory and cleaning collide in this video art piece musing about a mother and her bed. She Used To See Him Most Weekends Penny Lane in attendance A short story about growing up, a certain love song, and the apocryphal memories of childhood. Simple animations create a picture book whose story is scrambled by time and loss. Penny Lane creates an imaginative look at childhood memories and how what we remember can be completely subjective. Simple animation is used to create a black and white storybook. Young Dale Hoyt, Director A new avant jazz music video from Annette Peacock’s current album. For Memories’ Sake Ashley Maynor This half-hour documentary investigates the life and work of Angela Singer, a Southern homemaker who has taken an average of a dozen photos a day for the last 35 years, compiling a mysterious and strange archive of over 150,000 photographs of her daily life.

Life Cycle (continued) Forget My Name Julia Kots In this black comedy a young man seeks the help of an outgoing suicide enthusiast for his terminally-ill mother. Its boy meets girl meets the macabre. Frankie Darren Thornton Frankie is about a young 15-year-old boy preparing for fatherhood. He wants to be the best Dad ever, so he carries around a doll for practice. But as his day goes on, he starts to realize how impossible this will be for him. 9:15PM Died Young, Stayed Pretty Eileen Yaghoobian A movie about Rock Posters that are both vulgar and intensely visceral onto the gnarled surfaces of the urban landscape. The film gives us intimate look at some of the giants of this modern subculture. These indie graphic artists have created their own visual language for describing the underbelly of western civilization. Along the way, they create posters that are obscene, blasphemous and often quite beautiful.

Annie Lloyd Cecelia Condit An unflinching valentine to Condit’s mother in her last years, Annie Lloyd begins with wildflowers swaying dreamily. Ghostly laughter surrounds, with a faint echo of wind chimes. There’s a magical quality to this evocation of the wind—of forces we look at but cannot see. Condit tells us in an intimate and unsettling voiceover “My mother collects leaves. I collect stories. Mother’s stories.” False Aging Lewis Klahr Lewis Klahr evokes longing and regret in the haunting collagefilm crafted from the detritus of the past. False Aging expresses a sense of lost time, of not moving in step with the rest of the world. In one sequence Jefferson Airplane’s “Lather” asks the question, “Is it true I’m no longer young?”
