Remember, healthy body = healthy mind, so keep active throughout your studies and set a good example for your future patients.

GYMS: Fitness First Pros: Nice and modern facilities (including steam room, daycare, women only area), offers lots of classes. Walking distance from uni. Lots of clubs across Australia Cons: Expensive, 12 month contract. Lucky to get a car park. Costs: Initial membership approx. $80. Direct debit approx. $38/fortnight. Southport Sharks Pros: Huge range of group fitness classes. 2 month contract, then month to month. Easy parking. Cons: Quite a distance from uni Costs: Will waive joining fee (usually $99) if a group of 4 join together, and currently offering 50% off. $29.90/fortnight (direct debit) Location: Corner Musgrave and Olsen ave, Southport Contact: 07 5591 5800

Globe Pros: The cheapest by far. Walking distance from uni. No contracts, no joining fee. Quiet and does not have that ‘corporate gym’ feel. Cons: Few group fitness classes. Older facilities. Ashmore PCYC Pros: No contract. Affordable. Will place your debit on hold or cancel during holidays. Group fitness available (but not a huge list) Cons: Location is not close to uni, facilities not ‘flashy’ or super modern. Fenix Fitness Pros: large brand new gym, helpful staff, modern facilities (including sauna, daycare, women only area) Cons: location is not in close vicinity to uni, cost Costs: Joining fee is around $200 but then there is the $85 “kick-start” fee and a $65 admin fee. Direct debit: $40/fortnight on a 12-month contract or $50/fortnight on a week by week basis. Endomondo: Fitness tracker app for a variety of activities, tracks by GPS and records your workout. Has a social aspect for sharing with friends.
