Head Teacher: M.R.Tremmel Gullane Primary School Muirfield Terrace Gullane EH31 2HL Tel/Fax: 01620 843455 Dear Parents/Carers Let us start with some nice news! During the February break Miss Smith was married to Mr Richard Valente in a beautiful ceremony in Gullane Parish Church. Our heartiest congratulations to Miss Smith who will now be known as Mrs Valente!

Charades Theatre Company P5, 6 & 7 classes are working with ‘Charades Theatre Company’ this term. This work is funded by the Youth Music Initiative and ‘Charades’ are a professional theatre company who work in a wide variety of schools across Scotland. The production is called ‘Burke and Hare’ and tells the tale of this gruesome pair through voice and drama. The company come into school three times to support the staff and pupils. The voice work is delivered and taught by Mrs Roberts, Music Specialist, within their timetable. The children have been asked to learn words and such like during the weeks that have passed. Once taught and developed the company invite parents in to watch the final piece. P5, 6 and 7 parents are cordially invited to come to Gullane Primary on Tuesday 11th March for a 2pm start. The performance will not be more than an hour. The children in the P1-4 classes will see a performance in the morning during their dress rehearsal. This is a super opportunity for the children and they have done so well. I am listening to them as I write as the team are in on a scheduled ‘music support’ day! We look forward to welcoming you on the 11th March for 2pm.

Parent/Teacher Consultations These are set for the week beginning 24th March. Staff will be sending out appointment times soon. They do endeavour to match up families and the various requests. Watch out for the slips coming home soon. Traffic around School Despite repeated requests we still have a number of parents who choose to drive too fast around the school area and who choose to park without thought for others. This problem has been

highlighted by concerned parents, Parent Council and the pupils. Please, please cut your speed to a slow crawl around the school and park carefully to ensure children do not have to cross between cars or where cars obscure their view. A few extra seconds is all it takes. On the subject of travel to school, Gullane Primary have been awarded a banner and £50 because we have increased the number of pupils who walk/scoot/park and stride to school. Well done those who worked to help this target. Nursery Hours and Changes for Session 2014-2015 Scottish Government Directive You may have read about or heard on your grapevines that the nursery children, both pre-school and ante pre-school, are to have their hours increased as of August 2014. This will mean longer sessions for both morning and afternoon children. Each session will be 3.5 hours from Monday through to Thursday with alternate Friday morning sessions. The details of this are still being worked through and clear information will be available when I am in possession of full facts. The way it looks at present it appears that children will start the morning session at 8.30 and finish at 12 and the afternoon group will start at 12.45 and finish at 4.15. This is not set as yet and these timings are only what have been discussed so far. (not long for staff to clear away and have lunch) There will have to be additional staffing in the nursery as contracts will have to be adhered to and such like. I am sorry that the information is not ‘firmer’ at present but I know folks are talking about it and I thought it may be helpful to put something out there in the interim. Message from Facilities Management Team International School Meals day will be celebrated across all Scottish Local Authorities on Thursday 6 March 2014. The theme for this year’s event is the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. East Lothian Council’s Schools Catering was asked to design a school lunch menu that represents Rwanda, one of the secondary countries taking part in the games. We have agreed to take part in this special event. The attached menu will replace the school lunch menu for that day with a baked potato for the vegetarian choice. The event is organised by ASSIST- a Scottish Local Authorities organisation and several suppliers. They have provided support with posters and other promotional materials for the schools taking part. More information on International School Meals day 2014 is available on the Council’s website This is an exciting opportunity for children and young people to taste different foods and a good way of educating them about different cuisine around the globe. The menu is displayed around school and is on our website. Kind regards M. R. Tremmel

Please remember to let us know if your child has done something out of school no matter how small or large – we love to know and we put up a card in school and mention the child and the achievement in our newsletters. We value your opinions and comments also. We are happy to accept the text for the information via email.

Congratulations! Well done to… our
