CHRISTMAS DECOR:

My must-haves

Snow to sand? Yes, that would be our little BY ADRIENNE ELLIOTT tribe of five’s weather story. My husband, Brandon, and I spent our childhood winters in snow-filled streets, sipping hot chocolate and bundled up from head to toe. I’m not going to lie — when it snows on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, there is nothing more magical. Fast forward to 2019, and here we are in south Mississippi. As our climate has changed, our family holiday traditions have just begun. Our Christmas decor is always evolving, but like many of you, I have signature pieces I always incorporate. THE TREE

I will always and forever love flocked Christmas trees. I think this comes from my Canadian heart because it feels like there are little bits of snow surrounding us. It’s the best kind of snow, though, because we still have the amazing Gulf Coast weather. I can’t say “snow without the mess” because if you’ve ever set up a flocked tree, you know it’s not the cleanest. How I switch it up: Tree skirt, changing the pop of color, changing the tree topper. THE MANTEL

I absolutely love to decorate my mantel every year. It brings back the childhood glee of expecting Santa to come down the chimney, even if our fireplace is electric. Truth be told, wood-burning fireplaces are my favorite. Our mantel decor every year includes garland, oversized ornaments and, of course, stockings and stocking hooks.I also love a large signature piece or two on the mantel. In years past, I have displayed my two favorite reindeer on the mantel, and believe it or not, I found them at Sam’s Club. However, this year, they may move to a new location for a fun change. How I switch it up: Add a new pop of color and shift my statement pieces.

THE FRONT DOOR

I have so many amazing childhood memories of Christmas light tours with my mom and best friends. I remember looking at the seasonal décor on the front doors and always smiling. I love to make a statement when I decorate our front door. It is where friends and family join us on such a magical holiday. We have two giant nutcrackers that I am obsessed with — also from Sam’s Club. Christmas wreaths, garland and oversized ornaments are a must. How I switch it up: Change out my wreaths or add to existing wreath.
