What are the Greater Works? In John 14:12, Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father. Oswald Chambers comments about this verse in his devotional, My Utmost for His Highest. He states, “The Greater Work is the work of intercessory prayer.” He goes on to explain that Jesus was able to “Go to the Father” and begin His ministry as Intercessor because He, Jesus, finished the work God called Him to do (John 17:4,19:30).

NEED HOPE?

Now, we as believers, have the privilege and responsibility of “Going to the Father” or interceding, in the power of the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Name! This is one of the Greater Works the believer in Christ can perform.

Besides the Lord securing this eternal reality and becoming our Intercessor, (John 17, Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25), He also became our Advocate. “If any man sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins; and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 “Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25 Lastly, because Christ went to the Father, He was also able to send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. Comforter, (parakletos) in the original Greek language means “called along one’s side”. i.e. as our Helper, Divine Counselor, Encourager. These are some of the meanings and ministries relating to this word “Comforter.”

If you want to be loved, accepted, and nourished into the design God has planned for you, then this is a church for you. We hope you will visit us this week! Pastor John Collins

Child of God! What a great opportunity!! We all have this Great Commission and Great Commandment to join Christ in a Greater Work because “He first loved us.”(1 John 4:19) and finished His work! In closing, we now have the blessing to participate in the Greater Works of: 1. Loving one another in John 13:34, 35. 2. Interceding for one another in 1 Timothy 2:1. 3. Comforting one another in 1 Thessalonians 4:18, 5:11, & 2 Cor. 1:4. 4. Forgiving one another in Ephesians 4:32, Matt. 6:14. As we do this, “Let us come boldly to the throne of grace; to receive mercy, and find grace to help in time of need,” (Hebrews 4:12)......for our needs as well as the needs of others.
