“ the good news is that

Parent to Parent Binge watching TV shows was not a thing when I was young. We had plenty of reruns to watch – there was the after-school lineup of The Brady Bunch, Diff’rent Strokes, and The Facts of Life. And in the summer, we could watch I Love Lucy and The Andy Griffith Show at noon each weekday. But we didn’t have any options for sitting down and watching multiple episodes of the same show.

she now understands way more 80s references than she used to! ” or The Dick Van Dyke Show. And some of those shows started coming out with full seasons on VHS or DVD, but the options were still fairly limited. Now though, with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, the opportunities for binge watching are pretty much unlimited. We got a Firestick a few months ago and have Amazon Prime linked to it, and now my kids are hooked on way more TV shows than I would prefer!

Then when I was a young adult, Nickelodeon started doing a lot of marathons – they would show 24 hours straight of I Love Lucy

They’ve watched many, many episodes of Parks and Recreation, Monk, and most recently, Psych. Haylee was sick with a respiratory infection and missed an entire

week of school earlier this month, and during that week, she watched all eight seasons of Psych. At least the good news is that she now understands way more 80s references than she used to! Other than during Haylee’s illness, at least homework and other school activities keep the kids from going too overboard. But with summer coming, we’re going to have to put limits on the TV time, or they’ll end up watching every episode of a new TV show every week! Thankfully there are lots of free and low-cost summer activities for kids in our area. If you have the same problem I do, you might want to check some of them out on page 44. Until next time,

Jennifer
