January Family of the Month

Meet the Turner Family The Turners, GCF’s Family of the Month, lived in small town North Carolina for several years before moving to the Bay area. During those years, Billy and Dina grew up, met and married, and began raising a fun-loving family – all of whom are crazy about Star Wars! Apparently, the “Force” was strong with them from the beginning, for though Billy and Dina lived in nearby small towns, they met in Raleigh – in a most unusual way. It was a sorority function at North Carolina State, their alma mater. Each sorority sister borrowed a tie from a guy she chose for another girl – and then gave it to that sister to wear; and the tie guy had to find his blind date among the girls. Dina’s best friend had given her Billy’s tie. She wore it to the event; and that night, Billy found Dina by finding his own tie – and also found a wife, for their “tie” has remained strong ever since. They married and

now have 2 children: Rhett (11) and Evelyn (7). Seven years ago, the family moved to Pinellas County. They have found it to be home – a wonderful place to live, love, and work together; a home base from which to travel and play; an oasis for rest and relaxation. The Turner family lives life to the fullest in every way! Billy works for Oracle Corporation as a Solution Engineer for Business Software, and Dina is a 4th grade teacher at Pinellas Prep Academy. Rhett and Evelyn are involved in many activities both in and out of school. The family loves to travel, and they hope to make a crosscountry road trip one day – including an Alaska adventure! “I enjoy the unique experiences in my work,” Billy said. “The past 15 years of selling

and implementing business software has exposed me to all kinds of people, places, and things. I’ve traveled a lot and the opportunities have allowed me to find neat things and interesting places our family can visit.” Dina graduated with a business degree and worked in marketing for 10 years. “I loved it,” she said, “however, after having children, I didn’t want to go back to corporate America.” So Dina got her teaching certificate and began a new career. She appreciates the caring spirit at PPA that “truly feels like a family,” she shared. “What I enjoy most about teaching is my students. I do my best to instill a love of learning. The most rewarding part is when you see them engage and take ownership in their education.” The Turners consider themselves a “typical family that stays super busy with work, kids’

busy schedules, and lots of home projects.” But we at GCF think they are a bit extraordinary! They work hard. They play hard and relax well. Listen in: “We love spending the day at the beach, taking food to grill and staying until dark. We moved here for the beautiful white sandy beaches and the incredibly peaceful sunsets over the Gulf. We found so much more than that. We found a community that felt like the small towns we grew up in. We found a community with incredible outdoor adventures: community park playgrounds, bike trails, beaches, kayak adventures, and theme parks. Our kids grew up going to Busch Gardens on an average day! Who does that!?” Our community does! And we are so happy for your part with us! Congratulations to the Turners, Gulf Coast’s January Family of the Month!
