Fe b ru a ry FU N FACTS Black History is Our History In honor of Black History Month, Regions Bank is once again offering the Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest to high school seniors and college students. The Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest is based on the submission of a competitive essay about an inspirational African-American. To enter, applicants write a 500-word essay about how an African-American has inspired and motivated him or her. Entries will be accepted through February 28th. Contest Official Rules and complete entry details and eligibility requirements are available on the campaign’s website, www.regions.com/ridingforward. This February, the sights of millions of people around the world will be fixed on Pyeongchang, South Korea where the XXIII Olympic Winter Games will take place. While the previous two Winter Olympics drew complaints for being too warm, this year’s Olympic games may set a record for being the coldest. With this in mind, it’s time to put on some USA attitude and show support for our American Olympic athletes! USA! USA! USA!

While there are varying opinions as to the origin of Valentine’s Day, some historians believe that it originated with St. Valentine. Legend states that St. Valentine was imprisoned by Claudius II after refusing to honor an order forbidding marriage. On the evening before Valentine was to be executed, he wrote the first “valentine” to the jailer’s daughter whom he had befriended. The note was addressed to “his beloved” and read “from your Valentine.” Valentine was martyred on February 14, 269 A.D.
