Making the Most of a Moment by Kenny McNatt

What was so extraordinary? For generations the people of Israel had looked forward to the coming of the messiah. The one who, by his physical strength and military prowess, would lead his nation back to prominence. It was It’s no wonder that there were many people who missed the splendor of the moment because it didn’t look or feel like they had imagined. The long awaited king had come, but not the way most would have imagined. Rather than being outfitted as a warrior, he was clothed as a newborn baby… and they missed him.

the people in their lives. Those who were fortunate enough to see the newborn on that Bethlehem night, saw the light of hope that beamed radiantly in his eyes. While these are all wonderful aspects of the Christmas season, the greater significance is sometimes overlooked. Whether it is due to the busyness of our lives or because the commercial appeal of the holidays is so prominent, the greatest reality of the night in Bethlehem remains allusive.

Wonderful Life

The birth of Jesus who would be called “Immanuel” is one of the most significant moments in human history because in that moment God came close to us. The wonder of the Bethlehem night is seen in the name, “Immanuel”. It means “God with us”. This is what Christmas is all about. Think about it. God showed His love for us in a profound way. He came to earth. He made Himself available.

For most people in Bethlehem, the night of Jesus’ birth was a night like any other . The busy pace of the day had given way to the evening’s slumber. It was finally time to unwind. However, most of them had no idea that this seemingly un-eventful moment in the course of the day would soon give way to the most extraordinary moment in human history.
