Black History is Our History In honor of Black History Month, Regions Bank is once again offering the Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest to high school seniors and college students. The Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest is based on the submission of a competitive essay about an inspirational African-American. To enter, applicants write a 500-word essay about how an African-American has inspired and motivated him or her. Entries will be accepted through February 26th. Since 1904 the rides, excitement, games, exhibits, and fantastic carnival food at the Florida State Fair have been going strong and entertaining families. This month the Florida State Fair will swing into high gear on Thursday, February 4th. The Fair will run for 12 consecutive days with over 600,000 expected to attend, generating over $180 million dollars in total sales. The Florida State Fair is a salute to the state’s best in the agriculture and equestrian industry, including an abundance of shows, music, rides, food and shopping. Excitement and music flood the fairgrounds while visitors enjoy plenty of entertainment, included with the price of admission. February is American Heart Month, and Feb. 5 is the 13th Annual National Wear Red Day, both drawing attention to cardiovascular disease and the efforts to stop America’s number one killer. This February the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, will celebrate the 130th anniversary of Groundhog Day. On February 2nd Punxsutawney Phil will come out of his burrow on Gobbler’s Knob - in front of thousands of followers from all over the world - to predict the weather for the rest of winter. According to legend, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring.
