Around 10,500 athletes from 206 countries are expected to take part in 17 days of the Olympiad, competing across 306 events. The 2016 U.S. Team is comprised of 554 athletes (262 men, 292 women). Rio 2016 will be the first time in Olympic history that a South American country has hosted the Games. The theme of this year’s games in Rio de Janeiro is Viva sua paixão – which means “Live your passion.”
On August 12, 1981, IBM introduced the first personal computer. It was designed and built at a new automated plant in Boca Raton, Florida. By today’s standards, it was rudimentary; however, it was the first home computer that didn’t have to be assembled by enthusiasts from a kit. Programs were stored on cassette tapes and, instead of hard drives, data was recorded onto flimsy floppy disks. With a starting price of $1,995, the IBM 5150 personal computer was an immediate success and quickly became the industry standard. Its popularity was so great that Time magazine chose the “personal computer” as its 1982 Man of the Year.
