The Young and the Young at Heart Imagine a Cinderella wedding — a real Cinderella wedding — complete with the glass slipper carried in on a pillow. The church is resplendent with ribbons and flowers in every shade of purple. Organ and trumpet music herald her coming as the bride appears on her father’s arm. Prince Charming awaits his sweet princess at the front of the church, his face wreathed in smiles as he gazes upon his lovely bride making her entrance…

to be the case! They love to have tea parties, complete with their favorite princess dresses, tiaras, and scepters. Recently, while doing just that, our SaraRose said to her cousin, “That’s what princes are supposed to do – make the princess happy!” (For all you men reading this: that is a good thing for you to remember!)

We were privileged to witness such a wedding recently. Imagine a video presentation accompanied by the beautiful music: “Someday my prince will come.” *Sigh* It was truly a Cinderella experience! Surely that is the dream of most little girls – that, someday, their prince will come!

Role playing is a wonderful and important part of childhood. For just a little while, a child can live out his dreams—whether it is to be a princess, or a superhero, a doctor, or a mechanic. As a former kindergarten teacher, I make sure my grandchildren are supplied with an array of items to facilitate this! We have cars, trucks, and racetracks; doctors kits and a veterinary clinic; and, of course, a large stash of anything a princess (or a prince . . . or a knight) needs to make a costume complete.

Little girls love to dream. Just watch your granddaughters and their friends at play, and you will likely find it

So, sit back Grammy and Grampy; just watch and listen. Your amazing grandchildren will let you in
