I don’t have to tell you that the price of gas is still quite high; therefore, many of us may opt to stay closer to home for vacation this year. Living in Central Florida definitely has its perks to lots of variety when it comes to things to do. Here are some fun and frugal things for you and the family to take advantage of: • Take a day trip to Orlando to visit Downtown Disney – Downtown Disney is FREE to the public and is filled with everything Disney! You can stroll from store to store and eat in Disney-inspired restaurants without paying the price of admission to Disney World! Don’t forget to visit the Lego Store (Drew’s favorite) and the Ghiradelli Chocolate store for a FREE piece of yummy chocolate! You could even take a FREE boat ride to several of the Disney Resorts and have lunch or dinner at one of their many cafes without breaking the bank. • Purchase a monthly Family Plan to Busch Gardens– If money is tight and you really can’t afford to pay full price for the entire family to visit Busch Gardens, opt for their monthly pay plan. My family and I have actually done this several times and I must say that it is definitely worth it! You hardly miss that small amount of money that is deducted each month from your checking account each month, and the pass allows you to visit Busch Gardens pretty much whenever you want. (some restrictions apply) • Take advantage of local museums– Be on the lookout for coupons and money-saving offers to MOSI, Clearwater Aquarium, Great Explorations Children’s Museum, The Florida Aquarium in Tampa, Lowry Park Zoo and much more!

• Be sure to check out Daily Deal sites like Groupon, Eversave and Mamapedia for discount tickets to local events and restaurants – For example, I recently noticed a deal on a site for Putt Putt golf and Ice Cream at a couple of local establishments. The deal was almost half off the regular price, so that makes for one sweet deal! • Kids Bowl Free is another fun and frugal way to keep the kiddos entertained this Summer – Children can receive 2 FREE games of bowling every day during the summer. Go to www.kidsbowlfree.com to see age requirements, locations and details of this offer. • Check your local library for story times and other fun activities for the kids – Drew is actually reading quite well now, so I am excited to take him to the library this summer to pick out his own books to read to mommy! • Check out Summer Reading Programs at local Book Stores – Did you know that store like Barnes & Noble offer FREE summer reading programs for kids? Children will read 8 books and record them in a downloadable reading journal. After they have completed the eighth book they can turn in their reading journal for a FREE book! Check out www.barnesandnoble.com/summerreading for more details.
