Looking through Life’s Windowpanes by Debra Evans When my father discontinued my weekly visits with my grandparents, and I consequently declared my independence from my father, I had no idea that I was doing what children typically do when they experience a disruption of bonding: they withdraw emotionally. In other words, they shut down. As a result, I quit experiencing my hunger for love, and instead buried my needs deep inside so I could no longer be hurt. It was a protective device that made love seem bad, trust seem unimportant, and people seem no good. When I shut down my God-given desire for love, my old friend abandonment took its place—and with it, the constant internal accusation that I must be unlovable. I had no idea that as humans, we cannot be hollow or remain empty on the inside; there will always be something driving us internally, no matter how numb or dead we think our hearts and minds are to our unresolved past. We all make choices every day, and in those choices we choose how we are going to react in any situation. After all we have been through, why would we continue to allow our past to dictate our future by making the same choices over and over and over again? Nothing in our future is going to change until we change something in our present. It is time for us to separate from our rejection, hurt, disappointment, and failures, and make a new start by choosing the “Good”. Why wait for the next hammer to fall, or the next crisis to come. It time for you to start living the life you were always meant to live. Choose well and live on purpose. Debra Evans has helped a world-wide audience experience God’s gifts of mercy, healing, grace, and truth, through frequent appearances on radio, television, social media’s, and in churches worldwide.
