Located in Largo do Machado this project contains a Student Residence for 80 college students, an Auditorium shared by IAB-RJ and OI Futuro, an Exhibition Gallery and a coffee shop. The space immediately in front of IAB-RJ was elevated forming a large balcony that provides access to the restored historic building. The space in front of the elevated area was lowered to form a central square accessed through plateaus and small bleachers. In the edge of the block are located the café, the Auditorium and the Exhibition Gallery that can be used as a stage, transforming the square into an Amphitheater.

The intervention area is now a dark space, which imposes on the various pedestrian obstacles such as narrow sidewalks and parking tickets. The plan aims to create comfortable and dynamic spaces that may be appropriated by people with ease. The project is designed from a sunken square, located in the court center, which seeks to integrate the various institutional spaces that surround it, like Oi Futuro and the IAB-RJ, thus creating a public accessible space protected from the urban chaos of the Largo do Machado. The square is directly related with a cafeteria, which utilizes their plateaus to allocate their tables and chairs, with the designed Auditorium and an art gallery which opens onto the bleachers forming an amphitheatre that has the restored façade of IAB-RJ functioning as a scenic background.

REFUGE

PROGRAM: CONCEPTUAL REFUGE SUBJECT: CONCEPTION OF THE ARCHITECTONIC FORM II YEAR: 2011/2 ORIENTATION: ANA SLADE The proposed brief was a Conceptual Refuge for the use of professors of the university. A place for labour, contemplation and introspection. It was proposed that the project would be thought under the theme word “Silence”. The site is located in Ilha de Bom Jesus, and is accessed through an ancient church’s patio. To reach the building it is necessary to cross a passage through the woods that leads to an open view of the Guanabara Bay. The tower symbolically represents isolation and a connection with the illumination and the sacred. .

MANGROVE HOUSING PASCOAL LEMME STREET - CIDADE UNIVERSITÁRIA

PROGRAM: HOUSING UNITS SUBJECT: ARCHITECTONIC PROJECT I/ENVIROMENTAL COMFORT I YEAR: 2012/1 ORIENTATION: SILVIO COLLIN/CLÁUDIO MORGADO The building has been designed in order to prioritize the ventilation and natural lighting. Therefore, the residential units are steel modulated structures forming lines deployed perpendicularly to the prevailing winds of the area. The earthen homes have shared courtyards with extensive green areas. The units are accessed through a promenade that starts in the parking lots, in the main façade, and advances toward the mangrove, creating a view to the Guanabara Bay without requiring felling of trees in the perimeter of the site.
