TATA Motors Software Development Campus Kolkata, India Yazdani Studios of CannonDesign The new campus, which spreads across a 40-acre site, encompasses 2.1 million SF of space housing more than 16,000 employees. Our design concept was inspired by the important role courtyards play in traditional Indian architecture, specifically the role they play in fostering community interactions. As such, the entire site — including the buildings themselves — is filled with courtyards, dynamic building scales framing the courtyards, and a diverse sequence of landscaped spaces. The campus architecture is defined by two 15-story towers. The north side of the towers are clad in high-efficiency clear glazing with distinct ceramic frit patterns and sun shading devices. The south side integrates metal paneling into the façade and a number of framed terraces and public spaces, including a five-story courtyard in which employees from different floors can come together and interact.

MOT The Museum of Tolerance - Renovation Woodbury University_Studio 4A
Working with the existing Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, we were asked to revamp and add additional program elements to the museum. I took the time to look at what was and wasn’t working with the building not only in terms of program but also in the way people interact with the museum being that it is located on a busy street. In the final concept the museum became more people friendly with a better street presence and the interior space became more adaptable as any museum should be.

The Courtyard Canopy Competition Woodbury University_Studio 5A
The location where this canopy is designed for is a central path where the students and faculty often come together and disperse to their classes. Using the flow observed in this courtyard we have derived overhead canopy segments that replicate that flow. While the white fabric sweeps hold contours created by the frames, it becomes loose in the intermediate space where wind creates movement in the fabric. At night these sweeps are internally illuminated and create a lantern effect, lighting a space which is very dark at night. Where this space is currently underdefined, this new system not only shades the area but provides parameter conditions of sorts creating privacy while at the same time remaining open for social events.

The Missing Link The Glendale Freeway Cap Woodbury University_Studio 4B
Proposed with the concept of the future 134 freeway cap in Glendale, we were asked to come up with a ideas that brought something new and needed to the community. What I thought of when I looked at Glendale’s map was a lack of public transportation. When looking at the current Metro line’s map, it is clear that there is a missing section that turns the current public transportation into a much more effective system and in my concept Glendale would be a driving force to make this happen. Standing by the idea of public transportation, I pushed it one step further and looked at underutilized parking lots and structures and looked at how these properties could facilitate additional housing without adding additional traffic and parking needs. With this idea, this new public Metro railway allows Glendale to evolve in a new and revolutionary way where cars take a back seat.
