I am very excited about the launch of our new Bulls Heaven store. Our new retail store is open and it is located right across the street from the University of South Florida Campus in Tampa. Our store is next to the Mobile gas station right next to Bulls Express. The location is perfect - right on the edge of the USF campus on the corner of Fowler Avenue and Bruce B. Downs (30th street). We can hit the USF sign with a football from our store. We look forward to all our readers of Gear Up For The Game to stop by, gas up and come into our brand new sparkling store that is jammed pack with a huge selection of licensed USF Bulls gear and merchandise. We opened up just in time for the football season. Please come by and get your Bulls gear. I’d appreciate it if you would be an ambassador for our new venture and tell all your friends. Our partner in this enterprise is our dear friend and colleague Kaushik Joshi. Kaushik and his staff worked around the clock to get us opened. He owns the Mobile gas station and the Bulls Express Convenience store. His operation is open 24 hours a day and everything is state-of-the art. We share the same philosophy of being the best that we can and take great pride in providing outstanding customer service. We look forward to a long relationship and will do many cross promotions. Bulls Heaven and Bulls Express is a great partnership. Go Bulls! Go Bulls Heaven! Go Bulls Express! The Tampa Bay Rays had an exciting season and battled their way to win the American League East Championship. Every single TV station came by our Authentic Team Merchandise Bucs, Bulls, Lightning and Rays Heaven retail super center on Florida Avenue, to cover the Championship merchandise of which we were one of the first to get in. All the local network TV news trucks were in our parking lot and many did live shots for the news, as well as taped segments in our store. The media knows by now that they can always get a good sound byte from me, my staff and customers that patronize our colorful showroom packed with merchandise. The Tampa Tribune newspaper had a great story about our store on the front page of their paper. We were all over the radio stations. It was encouraging to have so much media attention for our licensed merchandise enterprise. We did sell a ton of Rays gear. I was hoping that our Rays would keep on winning and take home the American League Championship and then play and win the World Series. My dreams did not come true, but there is always next year. Let’s go Rays! Our publication is dedicated and devoted to the fans of the home town teams. After all, it is you the fans that support our teams by buying tickets, tailgating in the parking lot, watching on TV (homegating) and attending watch parties at sports bars. Loyal fans of the Bucs, Bulls, Lightning and Rays “Gear UP For The Game” at our Authentic Team

Merchandise stores. Many of our customers make the pilgrimage to Bucs, Bulls, Lightning and Rays Heaven, and those that are not able to come to our store, shop at our three online stores and Most of our merchandise is in stock and we ship the same day across the globe. We appreciate your business and thank you for telling all your friends and relatives about our licensed merchandise and apparel enterprise. We try to please everyone by carrying a large selection for infants, children, women and men. If the manufacturers make it with the teams’ logo on it, we are usually the first to get it in. The holiday gift giving season is right around the corner and we encourage you to shop early. We do not want you to be disappointed since many of our items are limited and we sell out. When in doubt of what to get, we offer gift cards in any denomination. Let us be YOUR holiday gift headquarters! Enjoy this issue of Gear UP For The Game. We appreciate the articles by Tom Hughes, Sylvia Huddleston, Samantha Bond and my mother Muriel Kleinman. We like hearing from you so drop us an email and let us know what you are up to. See you again next month when we publish our popular holiday gift guide. Go Bucs! Go Bulls! Go Lightning! Go Rays! Jeffrey Neil Fox

ctober is a great month for tailgating in the parking lot before the big football games. The hot and humid temperatures of summer are well in the rears and the weather sans any rain and hurricanes, is perfect for the novice tailgater and seasoned tailgater alike. The party starts in the parking lot before every home Tampa Bay Buccaneer and University of South Florida football game. Plan your tailgate the night before. Make a detailed checklist and pack up as much as you can the day before. You can never have enough ice, food and drinks. Fire up the grill. Invite your friends and impress your fellow tailgaters with your special recipes. Raise the red Buccaneer or green Bulls flag and let the banter begin. Tailgating in the parking lot with Raymond James Stadium as a backdrop has become a steadfast fan tradition. There is nothing better than meeting other fans outside the stadium for camaraderie, pre-game speculation, tasty snacks, cool drinks, and a festive meal. You just have to put your game face on prior to entering the stadium. BUC and BULL fans need to get pumped up and be part of the opening

ceremonies, and become the 12th man in the stands. The spirit begins at your tailgate. Long-time fan and tailgater, Chris Merritt of Land O’Lakes, Florida says, “The parking lot is a classic block party. Everyone does try to outdo other tailgaters, but you just can’t cast judgment. You’ll see the tailgating group with the Mac Daddy Motor Coach with the plasma TV and gourmet food, parked next to someone with a small Weber grill cooking burgers and hot dogs with chips and dip. Be creative. Impress your friends. Have a good time. It’s all good!” When you get to your tailgate area, plan your space. Make a work triangle. Don’t crowd the cook and your grill. You will need prep space, serving table, bar, an area to relax and dine. Set up your chairs and area so your guests will not trip over each other. The most important thing is to put your worries and concerns aside and kick back, relax and get ready to watch your team play smash-mouth, exciting football and emerge victorious. There is nothing better than walking back to your car after a hard-fought victory from the hometown team and continue the party in the parking lot. It’s always fun to rub in winner’s rights to rival fans in the parking lots. The best smack is the scoreboard. Make sure you’re a good ambassador for your team and city, win or lose.

Whether or not you’re a sports fan, chances are you speak a little Sportugese. That is, you use sports analogies without even realizing it! Oh, come on. You do and you know it. Let’s take the gloves off. Uh, well, okay, I guess that’s two strikes. Yikes! Can I get a mulligan here?

My point made, let’s look at some of the more popular forms of Sportugese. One of my personal favorites is batting a 1000. I use this and have absolutely no idea what it means! Nor do I care as I believe I’m using it correctly, and, besides, if I’m using it incorrectly and the listener doesn’t correct me, then I feel the joke is really on them. Another one of my favorites is the Hail Mary anything. Let’s be fair though. This is actually a double header (get it?). The Hail Mary is borrowed from Christianity, applied to sports and then re-applied to whatever the Sportugese speaker supposes it applies. Let’s try an example for clarity. Okay, say the speaker of Sportugese is pulled over for exceeding the speed limit by a little bit. He can not afford another citation so he looks left, fakes right and is ready when the Law Enforcement Officer approaches the drivers’ side window. He takes a deep breath and immediately opens with, “Do you have any donation forms for the Police Benevolent Fund? I have my contribution check ready.” The Hail Mary in action. Do you have game? Aha. See, you knew just what I meant by that. Are you a bench warmer, pinch hitter or heavy hitter? These terms are frequently used in work place Sportugese. I wonder what would be the reaction of a Sportugese speaker if a non-speaker turned the tables and used a cooking analogy. “He really retained his loft when handling that tough customer.” (Translation for non-bakers, the loft is the desirable part of fluffy height when cooking a delicate dessert.) Let me end with the SCORE! Folks, this one needs very little explanation. You can score things, like choice seats to a game or a winning lottery ticket. You can score proverbial points, like when you hold the door for your mother-in-law. Or the big score…you know the one, when your buddy asks, “Did you score?” You grin and add, “With extra innings.” So remember, be a team player, swing for the fences and win one for the Gipper in the game of life.

I have to start off by admitting that I have been pretty upset by the Buccaneers and their owners. I thought they just were not interested in the team and didn’t want to spend money to make it better. Well I now feel that perhaps I was wrong or maybe just mistaken about that opinion. I guess, like many of you, I have been a little spoiled by the way the last regime handled building a team. Since Super Bowl Year we have built our team through free agency with some players added via the draft. When we had short comings at a certain position we would either buy an available big name player or find someone and try to resurrect their career. That started well for us, picking up players like Keenen McCardell, Joe Jerivicious and Rickey Dudley. They gave us an offense to go with one of the best defenses ever. Including Super Bowl year we won three division titles in six years. It seemed like we were just a player or two away from going back to the Super Bowl. However the problem with building through free agency is that mistakes are expensive. I’m sure we all remember the Charlie Garner fiasco. There were many other free agents that didn’t live up to expectation either and cost us a lot of payroll dollars. Without much young talent behind these players we could never get past the first round in the playoffs after the Super Bowl. I think the owners, after years of seeing their teams go to the post season and lose or worse, have a losing season; decided it was best just to start over. Bringing in an unknown for a coach wasn’t something new. After all Tony Dungy was not well known until he was the head coach of the Bucs. Building through the draft isn’t new to the Bucs either. If we go back to the inception of our team that is how we got started. As with the early Buccaneers team it is hard to watch and to be a fan. In my opinion the Bucs got a raw deal as an expansion team. They had to basically build the team completely through the draft. The first couple of years had college players playing against professional NFL players. No wonder we lost so many games. Most of us know that no matter how good a college team is they couldn’t beat a professional team. A group of college players that haven’t played together would be killed by a pro team. However, with some good drafts and a couple of trades in just our fourth year as a team we made it to the NFC championship game. It was tough going but the reward was a good one.

After some success in the early ‘80s the dark years began. The reasons for this are a subject for another time. When the Glazers purchased the team in ‘95 things began to change. Coach Sam Wyche, although not the greatest of coaches was a pretty good talent evaluator. He picked up some very good players such as John Lynch, Warren Sapp, and Derrick Brooks. Players who ultimately helped us win the Super Bowl. Coach Dungy took these and some more drafted players of his own, with a few free agent additions and built a playoff team. Most of the talent came from the draft although we did acquire a few players through free agency. No one can discount the addition of players like Brad Johnson and Keyshawn Johnson. The problems in my opinion occurred because we had this great defensive talent and our young offensive talent never caught up. We did draft some excellent offensive talent such as Mike Alstott, and Warrick Dunn. But it took a coaching change and a bunch of free agents to get us over the top. The problem with this is that it was very expensive. Our great defense had been together for a while and most of the guys had large back loaded contracts. The cost for the coach cost years of talent because of giving up draft picks. Then we add a bunch of free agents that cost a lot of cash. In the end it was well worth it in my opinion. There is no greater joy than winning a Super bowl! But now more than ever we pay the price. It is difficult to endure losing seasons when you have reached such heights, but what can you do now? I feel like the Owners are probably doing the right thing. Sure, we would have liked to get a Bill Cower or Mike Shanohan as head coach. But do we really want to go the way of the Redskins? They have tried numerous big name coaches and built a team through free agency. They have had far less success than we have in recent years and it cost them a bunch of money. I like the way teams like Pittsburg and New England are built (even if I don’t like the teams). They are two very successful franchises that believe in building through the draft and keeping coach’s long term. They do add guys through free agency, but the core of their teams is built through the draft. They are not successful every year but they are always in the hunt and have both won numerous championships. I wouldn’t mind having a team like that.

Our energizer of the Pewter Nation, Jeffrey Neil Fox, is happy to reveal our very first Tampa Bay Buccaneer FEMALE FANATIC. ANGYE FOX. Tell your friends and family about Gear Up For The Game, Authentic Team Merchandise and Bucs, Bulls, Bolts, and Rays HEAVEN. Need I go on? You need your gear for the game, recipes for your tailgating/ homegating experience and much more. All your needs will be met for cheering on our Tampa teams when you walk into the gates of, or the door of BUCS AND BULLS HEAVEN. You truly will be in Heaven when you are overwhelmed with the merchandise that is there. Gear Up your entire family. I’m proud to announce that they now have two locations. The original Bucs & Bulls on N. Florida Avenue and now their Bulls Heaven store located at the corner of Fowler Avenue and Bruce B. Downs. The new store is right across the street from the University of South Florida Campus. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the University of South Florida football teams are playing their games “one week at a time”. After each win, I can’t stand my energy. I know all you fans can relate to that. I am proud of our players as we should be. I am envisioning the pep rallies and functions that started happening on our journey to our Super Bowl and hopefully a Big East Championship. I am getting this little whisper in my brain that reminds me as to why I am the Pirate Lady Tampa. It was the year of our Super bowl experience in 2003. I would see Jeffrey Neil Fox, now known

to me as “Jeffrey Neil”, at the Buccaneer pep rallies in the parking lot of Lee Roy Selmon’s restaurant. I was amazed at his spirit. He certainly is a go-getter in my mind. One week at a time, a game at a time. We just cannot anticipate the future. Don’t anticipate the week or the game. BE THERE for our team, no matter what. Let them see and hear that you are behind them. As Jeffrey Neil got to know me and what my spirit was about, he invited us to be a part of rallies and things happening in Tampa. It was touching that he would find my husband Pirate Tom and me out in the public and come over to us for a hug! He is a very positive person and that is the type of person that Tom and I want to hang around with. What you feed grows!! Did you hear that? Let’s feed the spirit of Tampa Bay. Let’s support our teams and our city with whatever we have. We should appreciate the fact that we even have teams in our city. We should feel proud that the players try their hardest to win, not only for the business side of it, but for their fans. I know this for a fact. We have attended Charity Autograph Signings at Bucs & Bulls Heaven. We had the privilege to meet the players, get autographs and be in pictures with them. That is priceless! We never will take that for granted, that we were included in these events. I say this because it can happen for you. Just visit the sites named below and email me and tell us who you are! Where you are from! We need support. We need you. Tell all your friends and family how wonderful and fun it is to support our teams. We try to make as many games as time and funds permit. We all have our journeys. We want your journey to be something you will never forget in your life. We will be having tailgates coming up that you will want to be included in or just host one yourself. Congratulations to Angye Fox!!!
