Inspiration for Life; Excellence in all we do

26th October 2012

This Week As I’m sure you know, on Wednesday and Thursday this week Ofsted visited us to make their inspection. There is not much that I can tell you at the moment, as the report will be first checked for accuracy and then be subject to Her Majesty’s Inspectors’ (HMI) approval. Having said that, I would like to say how proud I am of the children and staff for their positive attitude and hard work. I look forward to sharing more details with you once the report has been finalised. Mrs Jones’ Scott maths group gave a great performance of some songs they have working on in Numeracy today. Those Sesame Street fans among you may have heard James Blunt’s song dedicated to the humble triangle. Disappointed at James Blunt’s rudimentary knowledge of 2D shapes, Scott Maths group set to work on their own lyrics depicting the properties of different 2D and 3D shapes. Full of references to vertices (not ‘pointy corners’ Mr. Blunt!), angles and faces, Scott maths group’s songs could teach us a lot about shapes. Congratulations to everyone in the Golden Book this fortnight: Owen Argent, Finn Baker, Sonny Thompson, Ruby Evans, Will Stevens, Harriette Kitney, Shaunna Cummings, Natasha Halliday Fern Marlow, Lewis Wilks, Jarek Knott, Scarlett Holman, Rhianna Payne, Mrs. Eales, Lewis Welford, Tyrese Bennett, Kai Colborne, Molly Thompson, Ella Thompson, Tyler Lees, Ben Slatter, Zac Rutland-Blackwell, Ryan Lambourne, Niamh Cummings, Daisy Kensett, Liz Wyatt-Day, Maia Green, Maizy Peach, Sophia Smith, Archie Walton, Charlotte Yates, Reanne Lewis. After Half-Term With the wet and possibly snowy weather around the corner, please be aware that children may wear wellington boots to school, and change into their school-shoes when they arrive. Boots are not part of our school uniform so should not be worn during the school day. Diary Dates October w/c Mon 29th Wed 31st November Mon 5th Fri 9th Fri 16th Sat 17th (2:15pm)

FroGS News and School Notices Drivers: Please be particularly careful at pick-up and drop-off times as we have again had a report of a near-miss with a parent pulling away after dropping off their children. I know these are hectic times of day and we are all in a rush but, particularly with the children arriving and leaving school, safety must come first.

French (Monday) and Music Theory (Thursday) after- school clubs will be continuing after half term from 3:20 – 4:20pm at a cost of £3 per session. There are still some spaces left in both clubs - please email office@gucs.org.uk if your child is interested in joining. Please donate any Nestle Box-Top tokens you may have to school- there is a collection box outside the staffroom and we are very grateful for your help. GRENDON UNDERWOOD SCHOOL COOKBOOK - FroGS are very excited to announce that we are creating our very own ‘Grendon Underwood School Cookbook’ crammed full of family recipes from the children, parents and teachers of the school. However, we need your help to create the book!

26 October 2012

You will have received a letter via your child’s book bag complete with a recipe sheet for those without internet access. We would like to encourage you and your children to contribute to the book with your favourite recipes. The recipes can be of anything you love making – a starter, a main course, a dessert, baking recipes, quick bites – anything that is tasty and which you would like to share with the school community. You can even include a photograph of your child with the recipe (see the letter for full details). The recipe book will be available prior to Christmas at a cost of £7.50 each. We believe they will make a lovely personal Christmas present! For those with internet access, we would like to encourage you to log onto the specially designed site and send your recipe online. To do this you just need to log onto: www.theschoolcookbook.com and use access code 19081367 Follow the onscreen instructions, which are quick and simple to use, and available now to add your recipe – all recipes to be received by Friday 9th November.
