Inspiration for Life; Excellence in all we do

22nd March 2013

Happiness – Learning Behaviour We have been celebrating Happiness this week as our learning behaviour. You may think this an odd one but actually it is vitally important to recognise happiness in all that we do, not only in school, but in our everyday lives: the message is to find happiness in the smallest things, to recognise the smallest successes and celebrate them in a BIG way! There was a great deal of happiness in the Sports Hall yesterday when the Year 3 and 4 performed a very magical ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. Very well done to all involved - children, teachers and TAs. It was a super show! We also have some very happy winners of our great Grendon’s Got Talent show and our Four Trees Restaurant Logo Competition which were announced in today’s assembly! Congratulations to our Grendon’s Got Talent winners: in 1st place- Isaac Boughton, Ronan Goss and Will Maskell; in 2nd place- Ollie Downham, Luke Forrest, Rex Johnson, Joshua Skilling and Freddie Wall; in 3 rd placeQuinn Gascogne, Izzy Kelsey and Ruby Mills. Congratulations to our Four Trees Logo winners: Overall winner- Francesca Moore; KS1 runner up- Dom Leverett; KS2 runner up- Harry Dearn. I would also like to thank Caitlin Jackson for organising this competition- what a great idea. Well done everybody, this is a great reason to celebrate! Congratulations to everybody who was in the Golden Book this week: Max O’Brien, Karl Kreiseler, Thomas Eales, Harry Evans, Sarah Ward, Katherine Rowles, Maddie Stork, Robert Charlton, Kit Cooper-Tutton, Toby Culverhouse, Shaunna Cummings, Ben Dalton, Bea Greenfield, Harriette Kitney, Dominic Leverett, Daisy Marlow, Ethan Steele, Julia Samways, Will Horwood, Finn Hudson, Ben Bristow. Easter Service Next Thursday we will be taking the children down to St. Leonard’s Church for a ‘New Beginnings’ service. Sadly we are unable to invite parents as our little village church will be full up with just the children and staff, but I’m sure the children will be keen to tell you what they learn. As this trip is for the whole school and requires just a short walk through the village, we will assume that we have your permission to take your child unless you contact us in writing. New appointments We are welcoming two new members to the Grendon teaching team after Easter: Miss Amy Dearn will be taking over Mrs Court’s teaching commitments, whilst Mrs Lindsay Smith will act as a temporary Nursery TA in EYFS. The latter post is currently being advertised on Bucks CC jobs. We have also appointed a further two new teachers to the team who will join us from September. Mrs Miriam Jeffries and Mrs Kate Cashman will be full-time teachers – more details on next year’s class groups/teachers will be released in the summer term. Watch this space! Clubs At a recent meeting, the School Council broached me on the subject of clubs: specifically they wanted to ask if there could be more clubs on offer before and after school at Grendon. Auditing the current views of pupils at the school, the Council explained that not only were lunchtime clubs difficult to fit in due to time constraints, they also felt rushed eating their food trying to get to their club on time. It is clear that this has caused the interest in clubs to dwindle – currently there’s only a limited number of clubs on offer, e.g. Cross Country, Choir and Surf Club. Hence, the Council have asked for more clubs to be on offer, but before and after school – they actually ran off many ideas and areas of interest, Art, Drama, Football, Netball, French, Cooking etc... the list went on and on. They were really quite convincing and quite frankly, it was a fair comment and a genuine concern. Hence, please watch out for a letter next week showing a timetable of ‘free’ clubs (Premier Sports is the only fee paying club) which will be on offer during the summer term.

Attendance Wow! We have our first class with 100% attendance this half-term (to date) – well done to Year 2, you haven’t missed a single day since coming back after half-term! 50 are in second place with 98.6%, followed closely by 5WS with 97.5%. We’ve still got more work to do in terms of our whole school attendance, so please, continue to support the school in this venture. Moving on Mrs Becky Prince has made the decision to leave us after May half-term. Although Becky has only been with us for a short time, she has proved herself to be an incredibly competent and efficient Office Administrator: she will be sorely missed. Details regarding the advert for this job can be found on the Bucks CC jobs website and the school VLE. Come and join us in the Four Trees Restaurant Are you interested in being a midday assistant in our Four Trees Restaurant?
