Inspiration for Life; Excellence in all we do
23rd November 2012
This Week Last Saturday the Choir performed at the Buckingham Festival of Music and Drama and they sang beautifully. Ours was the first choir to perform but the children took this in their stride and put in 100% effort. The adjudicator commented on how happy the choir looked as well as how clearly and tunefully they sang, and we were placed 2nd with just one mark between us and the winners! Miss Dolman and Mrs Court were also very proud of how beautifully the children behaved when they were listening to the other school choirs. Well done everyone, you represented our school brilliantly! On Tuesday Year 6 went to the Hazard Alley Safety Centre in Milton Keynes as part of their PSHE Curriculum Enrichment. They were placed in real-life health, safety and medical situations which they might encounter in their daily lives, from making a 999 call, assisting a person in need by putting them in the recovery position to dealing with a house-fire. “It was brilliant and fun learning about safety” Liz Wyatt-Day. “It was a good experience and may help me in the future” Beth Forrest. The children did themselves proud during our trip and it would be great if you would continue to talk about what was learnt with your child. On Wednesday 21st Year 4 went to Cadbury World. Firstly we saw projected holograms and had a talk with Mr Cadbury. We saw the factory where they made the chocolate and saw the great machines packaging it. We walked round the factory and had a little pot of melted Dairy Milk chocolate. We had such a fun little car ride in the village. Our favourite bit was when we could make our own flavoured chocolate! By Jenni Baxendale and Emily Norfolk. On Thursday 22nd Year 1 walked to St. Leonards Church in the village, as part of their topic on Grendon Underwood village. They looked at the building and heard all about what happens in Church. Reverend Hiscock walked to and from Church with the children and commented on their excellent listening and sensible walking at the roadside. Well done Year 1! Congratulations to everybody in the Golden Book this week: Kit Cooper-Tutton, Ethan Steele, Sofia Skilling, Shaunna Cummings, Nathan Cronin, Jarek Knott, Luis Howitt, Tyrese Bennett, Joshua Beard, Ellie Peach, Amy Wilks, Caleb Beard, Sophia Smith, Molly Brown, Francesca Moore, Millie Holme, Thomas Gaskin, Eve Avis, Finn Baker, Max Wall, Peter Baxendale, Jay Hearsey, Reanne Lewis, Jake Murrie, Will Holman, Alfie Garrad, Joshua Essenhigh, Ben Bristow. Next Week ECO DAY! Next Tuesday we will be having a special Eco Day to focus on our environment and how we can be more „green‟. The Eco Council will be introducing the day and presenting our new Eco Code. Lessons throughout the day will have an Eco theme, including designing an Eco Superhero and everyone can come to school wearing something green (no onesies, football kits or army combats please). Changes to dates in the Really Useful Card The Year 5 Tudor Christmas is now on Tuesday 11th December instead of Wednesday 12th because of our special Christmas Lunch. The Carol Service is now on Thursday 13th December at 6pm instead of Thursday 20th so that it does not clash with the Carol event in Calvert Green. The KS1 production will now be on Thursday 20th December at 1:30pm and 6pm because of the change to the Carol Service. FroGS News and School Notices Staff Change A wonderful opportunity has arisen for one of our members of staff. Miss Hair will be leaving us at the end of this term as she has been offered another job at Buckingham Park School, Aylesbury, which she will start in January 2013. Miss Hair has been at this school since June 2008 and has been a much valued and dynamic member of staff. Her contribution to school life has been outstanding and we are very sorry to see her go. I am sure you will join me in wishing Miss Hair every success in the next part of her educational career and we will all miss her. Our loss is their gain! School Buses Owing to the difficulties that we are encountering with the school bus service, the school would like to set up a phone/text „tree‟ so that we can communicate with parents as quickly as possible when there are delays with the school buses. To do this we would need a parent representative for every stop. If you would be willing to be the representative for your child‟s stop, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with you and your child‟s name and the relevant bus stop. We will update you if this will be possible once we have a list willing volunteers. Thank you. The Library Van will be visiting on Wednesday 28th November from 9:30 – 11:30. Children who are members of the Buckinghamshire Library Service will be able to bring their library cards and take out and return books as they would in any County Library. Please donate any Nestle Box-Top tokens you may have to school. There is a collection box outside the staffroom and we are very grateful for your help. Uniform: Please check if you have any uniform at home that belongs to another child and return any extra items to school, as it is easy for jumpers to get muddled after activities like P.E.
