Inspiration for Life; Excellence in all we do

17th May 2013

Dear Parents/Carers

It’s here at last! The FroG Rock is tomorrow! ‘We will, we will Rock you!’

The FroG Rock is on! Come rain, come shine - we WILL Rock on! What a week! Year 2 SATs continued, Year 6 SATs began. A fierce tummy bug swept through the school and „wet play‟ returned with almost autumnal weather! But, being the resilient bunch that we are at Grendon, we took it all in our stride! Well done to our wonderful Year 6 with your SATs, you did us proud. Roll on Southampton! Year 2s, you have been just as super, well done to all of you too. Parents please be aware of the „bug‟ currently sweeping the school and be vigilant: if your child is sick please adhere to Bucks County Guidance and keep them off school for the specified 48hrs from their last bout of sickness and/or diarrhoea. Lastly, with regard to the wet weather – nothing dampens our spirits at GUCS. Changes afoot! We will be saying „Bon Voyage‟ to Mrs Houghton at the end of this academic year. Katherine has secured a coveted position at the new Buckingham Park School and will begin her new role in September. From all of us at Grendon, we wish you luck and success. Mr Morrissey will be moving from Year 6 down to Reception. He came to Grendon as a KS1 specialist so will be returning to his „roots‟. (I don‟t know who is more excited, Kevin or the children!). Mr Morrissey is already employed as our KS1 Leader and will take EYFS and KS1 from strength to strength. Lynne Zverko and Mrs Lindsay Austin (AKA Smith) will complete the new EYFS team and will work alongside Kevin. All parents are welcome to our EYFS Open Day on June 18 th and are invited to „Meet the Team‟ that evening at 6pm.

Tuesday’s Tiny Troopers Tuesday‟s Tiny Troopers is our brand new „Play and Stay‟ group for 0 -5 year olds which will commence after the half-term holiday.

We are working in association with Waddesdon

Children‟s Centre to provide a free, soft play session for all babies and pre-schoolers from the surrounding villages. The session will run every Tuesday from 8.55am (drop-off time) to 10.15am in the new hall. Please come along - all are welcome, Mums, Dads, Grandparent Carers and Childminders (and bring a friend too!) See you there! Y5 Production Year 5 are very much looking forward to their performances of „Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents‟ next Thursday at 1:30pm and 6pm. Tickets have gone home today; if you have any extra tickets please return them to the school office, and email if you would like any additional tickets. Extra tickets will be given out on a first come, first served basis next Wednesday. Good luck everybody! Sports Day Sports Day will be held on Tuesday 11 th June. The children will compete in a variety of field events in the morning and then we will be holding all the races in the afternoon. Parents are invited to the afternoon races as all children will be competing so please come along with your loudest cheering voices, enjoy a glass of Pimms and wave a flag frantically. Please don‟t go to any expense but it would be great if we could have the children in coloured t-shirts to match their House: Oak– Red, Willow– Blue, Ash- Yellow and Sycamore- Green. These can be t-shirts with logos on already or turned inside-out. It promises to be a great day, and we will be calling for sunshine, sunhats and sporting heroes! Match Report: Grendon vs St. Edward’s

The match started with St. Edward‟s snatching a corner, luckily Grendon‟s solid defence quickly cleared it from the box. Soon after, Harry Dearn curled the ball round the keeper into the goal. Just before half-time, Finn Hudson reacted to St. Edwards‟ goal kick and swiftly headed it over the keeper into the goal. After half-time Harry grabbed our third goal by reacting quickly under pressure. The match was sealed by Will Maskell placing the ball in the bottom corner. A fantastic team effort from Grendon resulted in a 4-0 win. Jake Murrie Congratulations to everybody who was in the Golden Book this week: Robert Charlton, Lily Culverhouse, Myles Holman, Keira Tottle, Emily Norfolk, Neve Evans, Dylan Jones, Oscar Hughes, Imogen Walton, Matthew Doe, Stephanie Dalton, Jack Sherriff, Adam Kiddle, Ula Argent, Marley Nobbs, Niamh Cummings, Mia Jones, Thomas Eales, Karl Kreiseler, Max O‟Brien, Heidi Leverett, Oliver Lugg, Josh Essenhigh, Alfie Garrad, Thomas Gaskin, Alice Broome, Tyler Glass, Harvey Witter. Attendance Well done to 5O who achieved 100% attendance last week- our third 100% this half term! 2E are in second with 98.7% and 6M just behind in third with 98.4%. Well done everybody. Upper School Open Days The Royal Latin School are holding an 11+ open evening on Thursday 4th July 2013 at The Royal Latin School - Further details will be on their website in the near future. Keeping safe ‘Out and About’ All the children have taken part this week in a special PSHCE lesson on „Keeping Safe when you‟re out and about‟ (formally known as Stranger Danger – but not as alarming for the little ones). As we approach the half-term break and the children are likely to be playing outdoors, can we ask you to discuss again with your child/children how they can keep themselves safe from harm if and when they are playing out unsupervised. Email – our new email system is up and running and seems to be working well for those people who have opted in. If you would like to be emailed with newsletters, please email with your child‟s class as the subject line.

Textile Collection The Bag2School bags went home this week ready for the textile collection on 7 th June- if you are having a half term clear out, please deliver those old clothes to school and help us make some money! AMC Concert Staff from the Aylesbury Music Centre will be giving the children a 45 minute concert next Tuesday afternoon which we are very excited about. Because their staff will be roaming the County giving concerts the Guitar Teacher will not be teaching next week. Reception Class Vision Screening As a part of the screening checks carried out by the School Nurse in Reception Class, Ms. Robertson will be coming to school on Tuesday morning for Vision Screening.
