Winter fun for kids →  14

From Christmas ba(r)king to the children’s disco and the VIK (=Very Important Kids) party on New Year’s Eve, mascot Sammy makes sure this winter will be huge fun for the little ones.

Astronauts swear by the Cellgym method; now it’s your turn to train your mitochondria at the Palace Spa. Plus, enjoy an exquisite selection of artisanal cashmere at the Varana pop-up store.

Celebrated American artist, Jenny Holzer, has received worldwide recognition for her public installations. Holzer will project large-scale texts onto the facade of the Palace Hotel.

rowing up in Gstaad, the Eggli mountain has been a loyal companion – watching us from above, providing amazing views from the top. Skiing, sledging and biking, and taking in the views, and the sun from the terrace of the restaurant Berghaus Eggli: it is a true little mountain paradise up there. So I am over the moon – or rather, over the Eggli? – to see that the new construction of the cable car and the Berghaus is on its way. Thanks to the undeterred commitment of local investors and long-standing Eggli fans, a new chalet will be built. And it will be none less than a sustainable innovation: a massive timber structure without any concrete core. On the upper floor, the Club de Luge will provide members with exclusive access to this alpine Eden – and everyone will have fun on the new sledge run. The first cable car is expected to run in December 2019, ready for a fun-filled winter season. We can’t wait!

Down in the valley, we also have a lot in store for you: try the revolutionary Cellgym treatment at the Palace Spa or enjoy high-class music at Les Sommets Musicaux. Kids will join their friend Sammy on his winter adventures, while grown-ups are invited to indulge in gourmet Indian cuisine and attend legendary parties at the GreenGo. We’ll celebrate Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s in style – the latter with the help of Chopard. By the way, did you know Gstaad is a top shopping destination, too? See you soon! PS: A propos shopping: we’re proud to host an exclusive Varana pop-up this winter, making finest organic and artisanal cashmere garments available to our guests. Enjoy!

Ostrich snow dance Spoiler alert: A visit to the ostrich farm of Christian and Christa Hefti-Lee is not your typical winter activity. But it is more than worth it. Where else can you observe the sublime elegance of the magnificent birds surrounded by snow and pure winter beauty? Enjoy!

Walk the Peak Walk

Unwind and relax at the Palace Spa

After a magical lunch, we invite you to a truly divine experience. A walk at Glacier 3000 will feel like heaven on earth. Marvel about the million shades of white while walking the Peak Walk by Tissot – the only suspension bridge in the world to connect two mountain peaks.

Lunch at Lac Retaud A snowmobile takes you from Col du Pillon to Lac Retaud, where traditional Swiss cuisine and an idyllic panorama await. Lunching in the beautiful wooden chalet combines a unique experience in the culinary department with delicious views – for starters, main course, and dessert.

rom 26 February to 7 March 2020, celebrated chef Yannis Baxevanis and his team will be running the kitchen at Gildo’s once again. If you were lucky enough to enjoy their unique culinary creations last February, you know that you will get spoiled with authentic Cretan cuisine and flavours that delight the most demanding palates. Reviving a lost art, the Michelin star chef uses wild herbs and local products, collects sea salt, or grinds freshly roasted carobs to use as flour. Born in Athens, he travelled across Europe and the world. But he found his inspiration in the mountains of Crete, where he observed the traditional mountain women transforming nature’s wild gifts into a captivating culinary experience. For ten years, he has managed the restaurant Elia of the Majestic Hotel in Dubai, excelling in an environment where the biggest names in gastronomy

rub shoulders. Today, he enthuses his jet-set clientele in the cosmopolitan village of Elounda in Crete as well as at the renowned restaurant Ark in Athens – and exclusive guest stints in selected kitchens around the world. Come and taste for yourself! A STELLAR WINE CELLAR

35,000 bottles and 600 different positions: the numbers are impressive – but what makes our wine cellar really stellar is its exquisite selection. For more than 30 years now, sommelier Andrea Maffei has been curating our bacchanal treasures. To win his heart, a wine must be made with love and respect for nature. Guided by this motto, he has spent decades searching for partners that meet his high standards. The result is a collection of wines from well-known producers as well as lesserknown bijou vineyards. The majority of our red wines

are coming from France – names like Romanée Conti, Mouton Rothschild, Petrus, Cheval Blanc, Lafite Rothschild, Margaux, or Latour, are a must on our wine list. The oldest (and wisest?) bottle is a Château La Mission Haut Brion from 1964. With other wines originating in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, Israel, USA, Australia, and New Zealand, you can choose from a great variety of tastes and characters. Pamper yourself with a guided wine tasting – a sophisticated aperitif for gourmets, connoisseurs, and everyone who enjoys the pleasures of wine. Cheers! So, come in and light up in style! And while you’re at it, how about a round of chess or backgammon? For maximum comfort, interior designer Marina Nickels has created extra seating, complete with games and books. What better way to while away the winter hours?

LOVE, STARS, AND DIAMONDS VALENTINE’S DAY WITH CHOPARD et your special someone know how much you love them in the romantic setting of our fairy-tale castle, accompanied by the timeless elegance of Chopard. What better way to celebrate your love than by creating wonderful memories together? Spend a memorable evening with sophisticated cocktails and a gourmet dinner – and the chance to win an enchanting treat: The most elegant couple has the chance to win the Happy Diamonds pendant from none less than Chopard. Timeless elegance and everlasting beauty. We all know diamonds are forever. But in the end, it’s the shared moments and magnificent splendour of the star-filled winter sky that you will hold dear for the rest of your lives. Tables go fast. Book yours now – and surprise your loved one later!

CELLGYM – Activate your superpowers stronauts, submarine crews, and top athletes swear by it. Now it’s your turn to train your mitochondria with a visit to the Palace Spa. The highly effective Cellgym method is one of the latest additions to our Spa programme – its effect goes back to the 20th century and the discovery of the healing effect of mountain resorts. THE HEALING EFFECT OF MOUNTAIN RESORTS

Is it the crisp, fresh air or the incredible beauty of the majestic landscape that makes you feel so good up after a hike up the mountains? Of course it is. But mostly, it is the low levels of oxygen, also called hypoxia, that account for that healthy feeling. The reason for this is simple: Trying to make up for the lack of oxygen, your body starts fighting for more. To keep supplying you with enough oxygen, it mobilises dormant resources: You start breathing faster, your blood circulation improves, and vital forces are activated. This effect has been proven to increase the mental and physical performance of patients, healthy persons, and top athletes alike. The good news: You don’t have to climb mountain peaks to get there. A visit to the Palace Spa will do.

The Cellgym method activates the mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell, by simulating mountain air with the help of a hypoxicator – all while you are lying down and feeling completely relaxed. Essentially, the IHHT therapy uses controlled withdrawal (hypoxia) and oversupply (hyperoxia) of oxygen to stimulate biochemical processes in the body for self-healing and regene ration. The natural production of the body’s own coenzyme Q10, the key molecule for energy production in all cells, i ncreases, and protection against oxid ative stress improves. Train smart, not hard! Cellgym is exclusively available at the Palace Spa this year. To get the optimum effect, we recommend four treatments. WHAT TO EXPECT

The Cellgym therapy starts with an introductory conversation and a hypoxia test to determine individual parameters. We offer 40-minutes, during which you lie comfortably on a wellness couch. Heart rate, oxygen levels, and breathing rate are continuously monitored with biofeedback measuring devices, enabling the therapist to always adapt to your individual needs.

ARTISINAL LUXURY – Varana pop-up store at the Palace Spa ure luxury for your skin: this winter, visitors to the Palace Spa get to shop at the new Varana pop-up store and revel in luscious organic cashmere garments – an artisanal indulgence, sourced from the beautiful Himalayan mountain region. Did you know that Napoleon brought cashmere into European fashion when he bought shawls for Empress Josephine on his way back from Egypt? While initially skeptical of her gift, she soon became passionate about the fabric, collecting more than four hundred shawls – the unique material has been part of affluent wardrobes ever since. From yarn to garment, the creators of Varana trace every step along the route their cashmere products travel. There are the nomadic Changpa tribes who rear cashmere goats and harvest the fibre, the artisanal communities in the Himalayan regions of Kashmir and Nepal who spin, weave, and knit the final product. And there is you, taking home the singular softness and fine feel of the bespoke garments. You’re welcome!

Cool winter beats for a hot crowd hat do Martin Solveig, Skin, Bob Sinclair, and Synapson have in common? They all are amazing musicians – and they all have thrilled the crowds at the GreenGo. Ever since its opening in 1971, the nightclub has been home to many legendary parties, hosting a high-end international clientele.

Except, did we mention the line-up? This winter’s programme is still a surprise. But judging from the past, it will be brilliant. From the groovy tunes of Nora En Pure to the cool beats by Akon, Ofenbach or Feder, the GreenGo and our Artistic Director Jim LeBlanc have brought some of today’s biggest names to Gstaad. You, too, can come in and dance with us!

From movie stars to pop idols, the GreenGo has always been a magnet for the party people all over the world. No wonder, says Andrea Scherz: “The GreenGo has had a special aura from day one.” The club’s decadent seventies decor – designed by Teo Jakobs and my dad – creates a party scene that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. Add to that the infamous pool below the floating dancefloor, and you have all the ingredients for an unforgettable party night.

One of its secrets is the relaxed mix of guests: despite being a hotspot for the world’s top partygoers, the GreenGo is open to hotel guests and locals as well. Only the paparazzi are not welcome – along with baseball caps, ripped jeans, or hoodies: The dress code is stylish, sophisticated, and unique. Just as the venue itself.

ALPINE CHIC AND MOUNTAIN LUXURY Seven new Deluxe Junior Suites uality thanks to continuous investment – this is the magic formula we believe in. Ongoing renovations ensure that the fairytale castle retains its traditional splendour. The subtle alpine chic embodied in the historic building has proven to be timelessly fashionable. Just in time for the start of this winter season, we have prepared seven Deluxe

Junior Suites on seven floors. Illustrating alpine elegance and luxury, the newly renovated rooms reflect the soft natural tones of the beautiful Saanenland landscape. The Scherz family has invested around 2.10 million Swiss Francs in this latest renovation – and, as you will soon see, the result is harmonious.

A CINEMATIC JOURNEY INTO THE ART WORLD CinemArt at the Ciné-Theater Gstaad o you love film and adore art? We do, too! That’s why we’re looking forward to the 2020 edition of CinemArt Gstaad, held at the Ciné-Theater in Gstaad. In January 2020, the film series presented by the renowned art gallery Hauser & Wirth in collaboration with the Ciné-Theater dazzles the public once again with an inspiring programme offering unique insights into the lives and works of significant international contemporary and modern artists. Featured artists and well-known personalities from the art world include Alberto Giacometti, Wilhelm Sasnal, Jenny Holzer, Dieter Roth, Rashid Johnson, Joan Miro, Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso… For more information visit their webpage at

Boutique concerts in an exclusive environment or almost 20 years, the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad has been one of the top cultural events during the wintertime. Young, promising artists and well-established musicians gather for nine days to do what they were born to do: To give delightful and extraordinary high-class concerts. This year’s edition takes place from 31 January to 8 February 2020 and seduces music lovers once again with boutique concerts in the churches of Saanen and Rougement as well as the Gstaad chapel. A traditional highlight is the Prix Thierry Scherz, created in memory of the festival’s co-founder, awarding a young virtuoso with the opportunity to record a CD with orchestra and a well-known label. French violinist Renaud Capuçon, the artistic director of the festival, supports the musicians throughout the festival. The Prix Hoffmann is yet another great prize.

For our precious visitors, we have arranged a special package which will make every classical-music lover’s heart beat faster: • a three-night stay with room upgrade (if available) • a concert ticket valid for two people • an after-concert dinner with the artists at the Gstaad Palace • a unique cultural experience This package for two includes breakfast and a Culinary Credit as well as the use of the Palace Spa. The offer starts at CHF 1,869 and is valid during the festival (31 January to 8 February 2020). Our offers are neither cumulative nor can they be combined. Let the music inspire you!
