ime flies! I can’t believe it has been 40 years since the Saanerslochbahn first opened. At the time it was the fastest, most modern and most comfortable cable car in Switzerland. To our Star-Trek-educated eyes, the gondolas looked like space capsules; my cousin and I liked to sit facing forward, pretending to steer them up along the Saanerslochgrat with our ski poles. Just like Captain Kirk! Today, the operators of the lift and cable cars at Destination Gstaad are investing several million Swiss Francs towards building a new Saanerslochbahn. Once again, it will be a world’s first: using D-Line, the visionary ropeway technology from Swiss manufacturer Garaventa-Doppelmayer, it will amaze with an unprecedented glass roof construction. It will be hard to refrain from playing Captain Kirk on my first ride… The wonderful ski area boasts many beautiful descents towards St. Stephan and Gstaad, offering just the right level of difficulty for everyone. Before heading

down, I recommend taking a break at the bar in the igloo village next to the mountain station, the view being an excellent excuse to stay seated and enjoy a traditional “Plättli” accompanied by a delicious sip of white wine. Just heavenly. Live mountain life to the very fullest back down at the Gstaad Palace and indulge in our many indoor pleasures, like an inspiring spa treatment with our new therapist Shiva Ananda, or a sumptuous meal in one of our gourmet restaurants. And bring your loved ones! Together with our mascot Sammy, youngsters relax with our new Kids’ Spa Menu, take baking lessons or dance at the children’s disco. Celebrate Magic Christmas, an Orient-inspired New Year’s Eve party, or a Valentine’s Day with us. Creating memories that last a lifetime has been a family tradition at the Gstaad Palace for many years. I am looking forward to continuing the tradition with you as our guest!

High above the Gstaad Valley, beyond the slopes of Rossinière, is a secret garden where time stops. Two Herbalists, Charlotte Landolt-Nardin and Laetitia Jacot, have been nurturing and cultivating rare Edelweiss on these ancient, terraced slopes to produce luxurious, rejuvenating skincare cosmetics. Combining traditional herbalism with contemporary approaches they are able to extract the natural moisturising qualities of these flowering herbs to produce a range of soothing, regenerating treatments.

Since ancient times, the Greeks have been well versed in the art of celebration; modern Greeks are none too shabby in this department. So, after dinner, head over to our legendary GreenGo Nightclub and join our guest DJ at the White Party. Don your breeziest white attire, and dance the night away to glamorously groovy Greek beats.

It is hard to believe that this exquisite bijou once served as a bunker where gold and money was brought to safety. Today, its treasure is the gold of the Saanenland – our divine alpine cheese. Experience the culinary joy of our legendary truffle and Champagne cheese fondue or a traditional raclette, served in a delightfully nonchalant manner in the intimate atmosphere of authentic alpine cosiness.

Celebrate the magic of Greece during a week filled with Greek splendour. From 27 February to 9 March 2019, celebrated chef Yannis Baxevanis and his team will be running the kitchen at Gildo’s. Be prepared to enter a gourmet culture of Olympic dimensions created by a Michelin star chef famous for deliciously deconstructing Greek cuisine.

Enjoying Swiss specialities in the rustic setting of “La Fromagerie” just became even more charming: Switzerland’s chicest “Fondue Stübli” has a cosy new look. By carefully selecting antique furniture, shabby chic lamps and alpine trouvailles, interior designer Marina Nickels created a space full of eye candy, and a warm retreat on a cold day.

Our Fumoir has always been a gourmet smoker’s paradise – and it just gets better: with the upcoming update, a brand new humidor will guard the finest tobacco rarities the world has to offer. Providing total control over the environment and just the right amount of humidity to our tobacco treasures, it adds perfect pleasure to the uniquely elegant atmosphere of our Smoking Lounge. So, come in and light up in style! And while you’re at it, how about a round of chess or backgammon? For maximum comfort, interior designer Marina Nickels has created extra seating, complete with games and books. What better way to while away the winter hours?

Smoking lounge with a view

With its breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains, the Smoking Lounge of the Gstaad Palace is considered one of the most beautiful lounges in the Swiss Alps.

Even though titles, tasks and appearances have changed over the years, the Gstaad Palace has taken pride in mastering the Art of Hospitality ever since its opening in 1913. In a world where “No” doesn’t exist, the members of the Gstaad Palace family have been making miracles happen, small and large, on a daily basis, for over 100 years. A great achievement, now and then. Take a look!

Meet your friend Sammy! only knew how to bark and snarl – and one by one, they made the children cry. Sammy couldn’t help himself: He ran forward and softly licked away their tears. Soon they were all smiling and laughing.

Once upon a time there was a dog called Sammy. Sammy was kind, he was smart, and he had a dream: one day, he wanted to be a watchdog. Not any old watchdog, no, but a palace watchdog. So, when the owners of the Gstaad Palace announced they were looking for a dog to look after their wonderful guests and their families, he immediately applied for the job.

Sammy has been part of the Gstaad Palace family ever since, and we want him to become your friend, too. He’ll be waiting for you on your bed – ready for many wonderful winter adventures!

On the day of the big interview, the biggest, strongest and bravest watchdogs from around the country and beyond gathered at the Gstaad Palace. Sammy took one look at the competition and lost all hope. The problem was: Sammy wasn’t really destined to be a watchdog. In fact, he hated scaring people away! He took a deep breath and lined up with the other dogs, who were all preparing to show off their most intimidating poses.

Between 21 December 2018 and 10 March 2019 our kids’ club will be open daily from 3.00 pm to 9.00 pm. All our child carers are professionally trained. Meeting point is our kids’ playroom next to the spa. We are looking forward to seeing you there. Our concierge team is pleased to assist you with further information on our additional daily children’s activities. Updates will also be posted on

Then, to everyone’s surprise, the Head Housekeeper announced: “The first dog to make the children laugh will win!” The watchdogs tried their best, but they

them into life-sized sculptures, using broad spatulas to highlight their traits and bring their behaviour closer to us. A CHALLENGING DIALOGUE

Rivalta’s style is raw and the modelling visible, making each sculpture come alive with a fierce, primordial power. And yet the animals tempt you to come closer, to study their detailed forms, maybe even to touch their cold, smooth skin. Thus Rivalta invites you to enter into a complex and challenging dialogue between nature and culture. We are very much looking forward to housing these powerful works of art and experiencing the transformation of our Palace garden into an open art space of the highest calibre. Come by and take a look!

From 15 December 2018 to 10 March 2019, around 20 bronze sculptures by Italian artist Davide Rivalta will move into their winter residence in the Gstaad area  – some of them roaming our very own premises. To the artist, the silent creatures are a reminder that we come from the same animal world. Rivalta maintains a close connection with his animals, observing and photographing them in freedom and captivity. He then transforms 20
