TAKE ACTION by feeling empowered to make a difference.
Theater Day at Missouri Southern State University
Change It Up!
All around there are opportunities to make a difference, including completing Journeys, Take Action projects, and Silver and Gold Award projects. But where to begin? And how to choose a project that matters? We’ll sample activities from the It’s Your World—Change It series. We’ll also have materials from all older girl Journeys and work together to help girls figure out how they want to journey, and how they want to take action. Learn how to step up and take the lead. Don’t you think it’s time to take “girl-led” to a whole new level?
Have you ever dreamed of being an actress or wondered what happens behind the scenes of a play? Join sister Girl Scouts at the MSSU campus as theater students and professors guide you through a day exploring theater! You will participate in theater games and activities and get a behind the scenes tour of the theater including props and costumes. Best of all, you will end the day watching a live performance of a children’s play! The day will include activities that count toward completion of the It’s Your Story—Tell it! Journey for each age level. Girl price includes a patch. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch.

Me, Myself, & Media
Media is all around us—Movies, TV, music, texting, tweets, and blogs. The average girl spends 10.5 hours a day exposed to media! This program will explore what’s real, what’s not, and how you have the power to put the ME in media! Cadettes will earn portions of the MEdia Journey awards and Seniors will earn part of the Truth Seeker badge. Price includes a Journey book for girls and lunch.
DISCOVER new challenges in the world.
The Late Show Winter Overnight
Do you like to stay up? Discover the world of after-dark, the Girl Scout way! Find a “treasure” in a night-hike hunt, check out the stars, and learn what it is like to work the nightshift when the rest of the world is fast asleep. Activities from both the Cadette Night badge and the Senior Sky badge will be part of the fun, but the best part is how late we’ll all stay up having fun together. This event is an overnight event and will include an evening snack and light breakfast.

The Invention, Art, and Science of Leonardo da Vinci
The life and works of artist and scientist Leonardo da Vinci fascinate us because, while he exemplified the Italian Renaissance, he transcended his time and place, inventing things like a helicopter 500 years before the technology existed to build one. This program invites you to visit the workshop of Leonardo’s mind where you can learn how a genius thinks. We will take a look at different inventions he created and each participant will get a chance to build and take home a wooden model of one of his inventions. Throughout the program we’ll tie in parts of the aMuse Journey for Juniors, MEdia Journey for Cadettes, and the Mission: Sisterhood for Seniors. Badge and Journey links will be sent home.
Date: Friday, Jan. 24–Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 Time: 6:00 p.m. Friday–9:00 a.m. Saturday Location: Latonka Program Center, Wappapello, MO Registration Deadline: 1/10/14 MIN/MAX: 10/50 Girl Cost: $15.00 Adult Cost: $8.00
CONNECT through cooperation & team-building.
ALICE is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. It allows you to learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating animated movies and simple video games. In ALICE’s interactive interface, you drag and drop graphic tiles to create a program, where the instructions correspond to standard statements in a production-oriented programming language, Java. You will spend the day creating movies and video games of their own! Juniors will have Journey links to aMUSE and Cadettes will begin on the MEdia Journey. At the end of the day, every girl will go home with a copy of ALICE to continue learning at home.
