BRUCE WOYAK—Presidentelect

Hello to the Golden Sands Home Builders Association,

PAM ZINDA—Treasurer

I hope everyone is having a great year and is looking forward to a new year of many exciting events to come. I would like to start off by thanking our past president, Ryan Hyer and all of his committee members, volunteers and family. They did an awesome job

in tough times. The hours that are sacrificed are priceless and I hope they know how much it is appreciated. As for me I am excited for the upcoming year as I am anxious to have some different events along with innovative ideas in the hopes to keep our attendance up and to help our association continue to grow. I would like to thank Pam Jewell for the installation banquet. It is my understanding that it was her first installation that she has performed. Pam is currently the secretary for the Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA). She gave a good speech about change as we all know how much things have been changing over the past few years. It was a positive message on how to accept change as it continues into the future, a big thank you to Pam. Living Local Fall Festival went over very well and has a tremendous amount of potential for the future. There was a crew of thankless volunteers that hosted the Fall show at the Amherst fairgrounds. The show had many different vendors along with a horse show, trolley system to the Amherst Festival, pancake breakfast, live bands and plenty of refreshments. It will be growing event in the upcoming years and you will want to mark it on your calendars. The dates will be on our new website when it is up and running. Art in the Park was very well attended by the community. I heard a rumor that there were over 70 kids in the booth at one time building their own version of a masterpiece. I visited Art in the Park for my first time this year and will have it on my calendar for next year. I saw one child walk out of the booth with, in my eyes, nothing but kindling and bent over nails but his smile on his face was nothing short of beautiful. Our next meeting will be at The Sky Club with the agenda to be announced. Hope to see you there! Best wishes, Eric Beggs Carpenter’s Corner As an insurance broker, I sometimes have to call people who have missed paying their monthly premiums. One day, I called a customer and told him that his insurance – premium check had bounced due to lack of funds. He was quite reasonable, “So, “he said, “who did not have money, me or the bank?”

TAP-TAP-TAP---the air is alive with the sound of approximately 25 hammers doing their thing!! It’s “Art in the Park” and GSHBA once again has sponsored an “if you can imagine it---you can build it” arena of scrap lumber, nails , hammers and saws and also Bluebird Houses! On the third Saturday in September you will find many varied arts and/or crafts down by the river at Pfiffner Park in Stevens Point. We were there---my Crew; Jeff Currier, Terry Dalsky, John Pence, my husband Tom and myself. We experienced pride and ear-to-ear grins on children’s faces---at one point it was reported that 73 “up and coming builders” were hard at work on many varied projects (all at once). I must say that this certainly was the” year of the chair” as many unique chairs were created from a MiniAdirondack with stool to a regal Throne fit for a King! I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to the working Crew as well as the many people behind the scenes: BJ Welling for graciously allowing Jon Marty, Terry Dalsky and myself the use of his shop to pre-cut the Bluebird Houses with BJ overseeing and designing templates to make everything fall into place. Steve Lorang (Wisconsin Building Supply) for donating the lumber and the much needed jigs for the assembly of the Bluebird Houses. For Michael Warning (Lowe’s) and Al Hoffman (Feltz Lumber) for the donation of nails and wire. Also, a big Thank you to Jason Blenker for the critical donation of scrap lumber along with Eric Beggs and Jon Marty. Thanks to Dan Peskie for the use of the “work tables” and “work benches”---very important for facilitating the creative juices. What more can I say, Thank you to all who contributed their time and or the “stuff” needed to make this event work. If you have an interest in seeing pure unadulterated JOY on a child’s face---make a point of volunteering at this event next year. Mark your calendar for the 3rd Saturday in September for one of the best times of your life!! See you there. Kathy Staack—Community Service Chair
