Camp TANGLEFOOT Guide to Site Reservations girl scout groups

Located in Clear Lake, Iowa, Camp Tanglefoot is available for rental to Girl Scout and non-Girl Scout groups from mid-August to mid-May each year. The summer months are reserved for our Resident Camp program. Camp Tanglefoot offers various buildings for rental groups. Camp Tanglefoot is located on 50 acres, with 150 feet of shoreline along Clear Lake. This beautiful area is comprised of mowed grass fields, reconstructed prairie and wetland areas, and woodlands. There are two fully-equipped retreat buildings available for rental year-round. Additionally, a traditional dining lodge and rustic cabin units are available for rental seasonally (late spring, early fall). Camp Tanglefoot is accredited by the American Camp Association. MEADOWVIEW This year-round lodge has two levels and can accommodate large groups. There are two fireplaces, two kitchens, six bathrooms with showers, and large meeting rooms.

THE OAKS This year-round lodge has two levels and includes

a fireplace, kitchen, three bathrooms with showers, and two large meeting areas.

SEASONAL RENTAL FACILITIES

Lodge This facility is used primarily as a dining lodge and includes a commercial kitchen.

FRONTIER HILL HUTS These five cabins are connected by a boardwalk. Each cabin can accommodate six people on three sets of bunk beds. Rest rooms are nearby. These cabins do not have electricity or lights.

TERRACE OF THE WINDS Cabins This unit has five cabins. Each cabin can accommodate eight people with four sets of bunk beds. Rest rooms and showers are nearby. These cabins have electricity, lights, and ceiling fans.

Pooh Corner Cabins This unit has ten cabins. Each

User-Group Policies and Procedures for Camp Tanglefoot Camp Tanglefoot grounds and facilities are made available for Girl Scout and public use from September to mid-May. We extend our trust to all who visit Camp Tanglefoot that the property will be well-cared for in times of use. We advise all user groups to follow the procedures below to ensure a safe and well-prepared stay. You are encouraged to obtain appropriate information that will be available and accessible in case of an emergency. Carefully review and adhere to these guidelines; and enjoy your visit!

Emergency procedures for User-Groups

• To notify the Camp Director, for any reason, call 641-425-8186. • User groups are advised to have a person certified in First Aid and CPR in attendance at all times. User Groups are responsible for providing first aid, emergency care, and emergency transportation. Basic First Aid supplies will be available at the camp, including: gloves, regular-sized bandages, gauze, triple antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone cream, alcohol swabs, wet-wipes, safety-pins, and tweezers. • In the event of severe weather, please move all persons to the lower levels of Meadowview or the Oaks buildings. • In any emergency, to obtain law enforcement assistance or the fire department, dial 9-1-1. • In the event of a lost/missing person or major accident or injury, notify the Camp Director. • Accidents and injuries requiring more than basic First Aid must be reported to must be reported to Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa and/or Camp Tanglefoot administration in writing.

All group leaders are advised to have the following information with them while on camp property:

• Names and addresses of all participants. • Emergency contact names and numbers for all participants. • A listing of any persons with known allergies or health conditions requiring treatment, restriction, or other accommodations during your stay. • For minors without a parent on site, signed permission to seek emergency treatment or a signed religious waiver.

General Outdoor Guidelines

• Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa/Camp Tanglefoot is not responsible for accidents • User Groups must ensure proper supervision and use safety practices while at Camp Tanglefoot. The entire camp area including the meadow, wetland, woodland, obstacle courses, flora, fauna, parking areas, and structures must be regarded as unsupervised recreational areas. Please observe all posted safety rules. • All outdoor activities, including sledding and skiing, are permitted at your own risk. Vehicles • Vehicles are not permitted beyond the parking areas. • All user groups must have a vehicle on-site to be used for emergency transportation, the camp does not provide such transportation in emergencies. • User-Group participants are not permitted to ride in any vehicle not designed for passenger travel (i.e. back of pick-up trucks, trailers, etc.) while on camp property. Snowmobile, ATV, and/or bicycle use is not allowed on the camp property. • Please be respectful of nature and wildlife at Camp Tanglefoot. • Close-toed shoes are recommended throughout camp. Please do not climb trees, walk or stand on the fire-ring logs, deck railings, benches, or other furniture. • Fires may only be built in existing fire rings or fireplaces. Keep a filled water bucket nearby, extinguish fires completely, and do not leave a fire unattended for any length of time. • Camp Tanglefoot is a smoke-free, alcohol-free, and drug-free facility. Equipment • The following equipment is not permitted on camp property: firearms/ammunition or other weapons, flammable/ poisonous materials, power tools, or paintball equipment. • Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa/Camp Tanglefoot are not responsible for any damage to, or theft of, personal equipment brought to the camp property. This is the responsibility of the User Group. Pets/animals • No pets or animals may be brought onto camp property without prior authorization. CAMP TANGLEFOOT RENTAL GUIDE - 5


User-Group Policies and Procedures for camp tanglefoot (CONT.) Special Programming/Group Supervision • Special activity/program areas (i.e. the Ropes Course, Waterfront, and Archery Range) are off-limits to groups unless prior approval is granted by or arranged with camp administration. • Girl Scout groups must ensure appropriate Girl Scout ratio guidelines are followed at all times during the camp stay. Public groups are responsible for ensuring adequate adult-to-youth ratios while on-site. All groups are advised to follow appropriate screening processes for adults working with minors. • Safety Checkpoint Guidelines Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoint Adult/Girl Ratios must be followed by Girl Scout Groups for the safety of our Girl Scouts. Building and Lodge Guidelines • Alcohol is prohibited at Girl Scout Camp Tanglefoot. • Storage rooms, furnace rooms, garages, infirmary, camp equipment, and other designated “Camp Storage” areas are off limits to all user groups. • Telephone is for emergency use only. Please do not answer the phone if it rings. • Please report any damages, supply shortages, equipment malfunctions, etc. to the Camp Director. • A clean-up list is provided in each facility. Please ensure that the list is completed prior to leaving. • Power Outage: In the event of a power failure, there is an emergency generator that provides power to the Meadowview building only. It will ensure power to lights, refrigerators, heat, and water. Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa and Camp Tanglefoot, reserve the right to eject any group or group members who willfully cause damage or disturbance to the camp facilities. Further, the council reserves the right to revoke user group privileges of any of its participants or guests in the event that conduct becomes, in the Council’s judgment, injurious or potentially injurious to Girl Scout Principles and is not in compliance with these guidelines for use.
