Located in beautiful Boone, Iowa, our Camp Sacajawea property is available for rent to groups from September to mid-May each year. Our Camp Sacajawea property offers several buildings available for rental groups. Come stay in our modern lodge-style buildings or our rustic cabins. With over 400 acres of wooded ravines bordered by the Des Moines River, a stay at Camp Sacajawea can be a comfortable, secluded getaway or an exciting, adventurous weekend. SITE DESCRIPTIONS and photos

Knoll Troop House is a winterized building with 18 sets of bunk beds, for a total of 36 beds, divided between two large rooms and two smaller rooms, perfect for adult chaperones. There are two sets of showers on either side. The building has a central meeting place including an indoor fireplace, TV, and DVD player and a kitchen including pots, pans, and cooking utensils for indoor use.

RENTAL FACILITIES

Rainbow Lodge is a winterized building with 13 sets of

bunk beds, for a total of 26 beds, divided between one large room and two smaller rooms. There are two bathrooms, but no showers in this building. This lodge has a central meeting place including an indoor fireplace, TV, and DVD player. The kitchen includes pots, pans, and cooking utensils for indoor use.

Szymoniak Center is a winterized building with 8 bunk beds and 4 camp beds, for a total of 20 beds, divided between a large sleeping area and one smaller room. There is a bathroom with showers in this building. The kitchen includes pots, pans, and utensils for indoor use. There is also a dining area that includes a TV and DVD player. This building does not have a fireplace.

Swanson LODGE is a winterized building with a large dining hall and a program center including a stage. This building can accommodate up to 60 people on mattresses, there are no beds in this building. There are bathrooms available, but no showers in this building. Other Buildings Showers are available for units that do not have shower accessibility. On check-in you will coordinate your shower time with the person checking you in. The Library is a small meeting room with a TV, DVD player, and resource books. MAYEA CABINS are rustic living units with no heating or air conditioning. Showers and bathrooms are located near by.

General Day Use allows you use of the grounds at Camp Sacajawea. Buildings are available in season at an additional cost. See page 5 for pricing information.

1. Fill out the Reservation Form and the Building and Site Use Request 2. Read and sign the User Group Policies and Procedures. 3. Return all forms and full payment to the Des Moines Leadership Center, 10715 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50322. User-Group Policies and Procedures for Camp SACAJAWEA Camp Sacajawea grounds and facilities are made available for Girl Scout and public use from September to midMay. We extend our trust to all who visit Camp Sacajawea that the property will be well-cared for in times of use. We advise all user groups to follow the procedures below to ensure a safe and well prepared stay. You are encouraged to obtain appropriate information that will be available and accessible in case of an emergency. Carefully review and adhere to these guidelines, and enjoy your visit!

Emergency procedures for User-Groups • To notify the Camp Director for any reason call 515-729-1843. To notify the On-Site Ranger call 515-729-1849. • User groups are advised to have a person certified in First Aid and CPR in attendance at all times. User Groups are responsible for providing first aid, emergency care, and emergency transportation. Basic first aid supplies will be available at the camp, including: gloves, regular-sized bandages, gauze, triple antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone cream, alcohol swabs, wet wipes, safety pins, and tweezers. • In the event of severe weather, please refer to the procedures outlined in our Emergency Procedures binder, centrally located in all buildings. • In an emergency, to obtain law enforcement assistance or the fire department, dial 9-1-1. • In the event of a lost/missing person or major accident or injury, notify the on-site Ranger. • Accidents and injuries requiring more than basic First Aid must be reported to Girl Scouts of Greater and/or Camp Sacajawea administration in writing.

All group leaders are advised to have the following information with them while on camp property: • Names and addresses of all participants. • Emergency contact names and numbers for all participants. • A listing of any persons with known allergies or health conditions requiring treatment, restriction, or other accommodations during your stay. • For minors without a parent on site, signed permission slips to seek emergency treatment or a signed religious waiver.

General Outdoor Guidelines • Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa/Camp Sacajawea is not responsible for accidents. • User groups must ensure proper supervision and use safety procedures while at Camp Sacajawea. The entire camp area including the horse barn and pasture, woodlands, ravines, obstacle courses, flora, fauna, parking areas, and structures must be regarded as unsupervised recreational areas. Please observe all posted safety rules. • All outdoor activities, including sledding, are at your own risk. • The low challenge course is considered a special programming area and is not to be used by rental groups without a trained facilitator. • Vehicles ЕЕ Vehicles are not permitted beyond the parking areas. ЕЕ All user-groups must have a vehicle onsite to be used for emergency transportation; the camp does not provide such transportation in emergencies. ЕЕ User-Group participants are not permitted to ride in any vehicle not designed for passenger travel (i.e. back of pick-up trucks, trailers, etc.) while on camp property. Snowmobile, ATV, and/or bicycle use is not allowed on camp property. • Please be respectful of nature and wildlife at Camp Sacajawea. • Close-toed shoes are recommended throughout camp. Please do not climb trees, on the deck railings, benches, or other furniture. CAMP SACAJAWEA RENTAL GUIDE - 6


User-Group Policies and Procedures for Camp Sacajawea (CONT.) General Outdoor Guidelines (CONTINUED) • Fires may only be built in existing fire rings. Keep a filled water bucket nearby, extinguish flames completely, and do not leave fire unattended for any length of time. • Camp Sacajawea is a smoke-free facility. • Equipment ЕЕ The following equipment is not permitted on camp property: firearms/ammunition or other weapons, flammable/ poisonous materials, power tools, or paintball equipment. ЕЕ Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa and/or Camp Sacajawea is not responsible for any damage to or theft of personal equipment brought to the camp property. This is the responsibility of the User Groups. • No pets or animals may not be brought onto camp property without prior authorization.

Special Programming/Group Supervision • Special activity/program areas (pool, obstacle courses, etc.) are off limits to groups unless prior approval is granted by or arranged with camp administration. • Girl Scout groups must ensure that GSUSA ratio guidelines are followed at all times during the camp stay. Public groups are responsible for ensuring adequate adult-to-youth ratios while on site. All groups are advised to follow the appropriate screening process for adults working with minors. • Safety Checkpoint Guidelines Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoint Adult/Girl Ratios must be followed by Girl Scout groups and are recommended for Non-Girl Scout user groups for the safety of all participants. Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs/substances are not permitted on Camp Sacajawea property at any time. Storage rooms, furnace rooms, garages, infirmary, and camp equipment are off limits to all user groups. Telephone is for emergency use only. Please do not answer the phone if it rings. Please report any damages, supply shortages, equipment malfunctions, etc. to the on-site Ranger. A clean-up list is provided in each facility. Please ensure that the list is completed prior to leaving. Power outage: in the event of a power failure, please contact the on-site Ranger immediately. The group will be assessed for any damages to GSGI property.

Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa and Camp Sacajawea, reserve the right to eject any group or group members who willfully cause damage or disturbance to the camp facilities. Further, the council reserves the right to revoke user group privileges of any of its participants or guests in the event that conduct becomes, in the Council’s judgment, injurious or potentially injurious to Girl Scout Principles and is not in compliance with these guidelines for use.
