n vino leggendario, simbolo della rinascita enologica italiana è stato celebrato con un grande evento al Teatro Regio di Parma. Parliamo del Sassicaia, il grande rosso toscano che nel 2018 ha festeggiato 50 anni di vita. Una sinfonia di gusto che fra i piatti stellati di Enoteca Pinchiorri e Antica Corte Pallavicina, ha portato un parterre selezionato di ospiti per discutere di eccellenza, gusto e assaporare il meglio del made in Italy. A condurre la serata è stato un vero esperto in materia, il giornalista Daniele Cernilli, noto anche come Doctor wine. “Il Sassicaia – ha spiegato – è stato un vino biodinamico ante litteram: inizi sperimentali, anche deludenti, poi una grande storia”. Nato proprio ‘Davanti San Guido’ e all’ombra dei celebri cipressi di Bolgheri, il Sassicaia è figlio dell’avventura di Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, l’artigiano sognatore che non si arrese mai, arrivando all’eccellenza nel vino, come nelle vittorie con il mitico Ribot, il miglior purosangue al mondo. Dal Piemonte a quell’oasi fra Tirreno e colline che al Marchese sembrò un ‘approdo tropicale’, era quello il luogo perfetto dove far attecchire i suoi sogni, come lui stesso scrisse in una lettera a Luigi Veronelli, nel 1974, per convincerlo della sua impresa. E di quella lettera storica, abbiamo il piacere di citarvi i passi più avvincenti ed emozionanti: Caro Veronelli, non può credere quanto piacere mi abbia fatto il sapere che Ella si era interessato al nostro vino “Sassicaia” e che aveva chiesto di poterlo assaggiare. So che gliene sono state mandate due bottiglie e naturalmente sono ansioso di sapere quale ne è stato il suo giudizio, cui ovviamente darò molto più peso che a quello, unanimemente favorevole, di miei amici, conoscenti e clienti. Tenuta San Guido Piero Antinori, il quale mi ha rassicurato di averle fatto avere tempo fa una copia della lista dei vitigni collezionati, più di un secolo fa, di un mio prozio a Rocchetta Tanaro, mi incoraggia a scriverle per narrarle perché e come io sia giunto a tentare, qui a Bolgheri, la produzione di un vino da bottiglie come il Sassicaia. […] Le dirò dunque che l’origine dell’esperimento risale agli anni tra il 1921 e il 1925, quando, studente a Pisa e spesso ospite dei Duchi Salviati a Migliarino, avevo bevuto un vino prodotto da una loro vigna sul monte di Vecchiano che aveva lo stesso inconfondibile “bouquet” di un vecchio Bordeaux da me assaggiato più che bevuto, (perché a 14 anni non mi si permetteva di bere vino) prima del 1915, a casa di mio nonno Chigi. […] Qualche anno dopo avevo avuto modo di procurarmi un certo numero di bottiglie di vini Francesi di buona annata e, tra questi, un Margaux (mis en bouteille au Château) del

A legendary wine, the symbol of Italy’s winemaking renaissance, was celebrated with a big event held at Parma’s Regio Theatre. We are talking about Sassicaia, the great Tuscan red which, in 2018, turned 50 and whose 2015 vintage was acclaimed as the world’s best wine by all major wine guides this year. A symphony of taste which, accompanied by the Michelin-starred dishes of Enoteca Pinchiorri and Antica Corte Pallavicina, brought together a select audience of qualified guests to discuss excellence and taste the best of the “Made in Italy”. The event’s host was a true wine expert, journalist Daniele Cernilli, also known as Doctor Wine. “Sassicaia- he explainedhas been a biodynamic wine ahead of its time: experimental, even disappointing beginnings, and then a great history”. Born right “Before San Guido” and in the shade of Bolgheri’s celebrated cypress trees, Sassicaia is the fruit of the adventurous spirit of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, the artisan-dreamer who never gave up, reaching an unprecedented level of excellence in winemaking, exactly as he had done with the legendary Ribot, the invincible racehorse of all time. From the Piedmont region to that oasis between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the hills, which the Marchese saw as a “tropical landing place”, the perfect place where he could make his dreams come true, as he himself wrote to Luigi Veronelli, in 1974, to convince him of the effectiveness of his enterprise. Following are some excerpts of this touching letter, which we are pleased to share with you: Dear Veronelli, You cannot believe how pleased I am to learn that you have shown an interest in our “Sassicaia” wine and that you have asked to taste it. I was informed that you have been sent two bottles and I am, of course, very anxious to know what your judgement is. I will attach more importance to your judgement than to that, unanimously in favour, of friends, acquaintances and customers. Piero Antinori, who informed me that he sent you, some time ago, a list of the grape varieties collected, over one century ago, by a great-uncle of mine in Rocchetta Tanaro, encouraged me to write to you to let you know why and how I attempted to produce a bottled wine such as Sassicaia here in Bolgheri. […] Well, the origin of the experiment dates back to the years between 1921 and 1925, when, as a student in Pisa and frequent guest of the Dukes Salviati in Migliarino, I drank a wine from one of their vineyards on Mount Vecchiano, which featured the same unmistakable bouquet of an old Bordeaux wine which I had tasted
