leries in which the artists of his personal parterre de roi reveal their works and masterpieces to the world, artists who narrate and define the present day, such as Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Giuseppe Penone and Richard Serra. The concept - The Roman Gagosian, on the other hand, is intentionally different from its sisters established in the rest of the world, because according to the wishes of the American gallerist it would have (and has) had as its main focal point the artist, which is the reason why its exhibition spaces are conceived as a place for creation and work, and in the end, for sharing the series of works with the public. Gagosian is, therefore, not just an art gallery in the traditional sense, but it is above all a choice in line with tradition, in a new and broader perspective, as shown by the works of Cy Twombly that were displayed here for the inaugural exhibition as the starting point of a path with the long-lasting function of disseminating contemporary art. Pepi Marchetti Franchi - The choice of the director of the Gallery is a direct and natural emanation of the entrepreneur Gagosian, who always keeps a tight hold on the reins of what appears as his “diffused museum” with the abstract form of the ephemeral, and who has staked everything on a young Italian scholar who manages the entire Roman complex, Pepi Marchetti Franchi. Her titles begin at the Sapienza University of Rome, continuing at New York University and then at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and finally at the American Academy in Rome. In 1997 the Guggenheim Museum was co-opted, where for several years she was a member of the executive in the strategic direction of the Foundation, until 2007 when she began her work as director of the Gagosian in Rome, leading it forward, in accordance with the original project, as a place for art and for the dissemination of contemporary art in a capital city historically devoted to the preservation of an immense heritage of prestige. 100 Roma | the Eternal City

Gallerie nelle quali gli artisti che fanno parte del suo personale parterre de roi rivelano al mondo le loro opere e i loro capolavori, artisti che raccontano e definiscono l’oggi quali Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Giuseppe Penone e Richard Serra. Il concept - La Gagosian romana è invece intenzionalmente diversa dalle sorelle che s’inanellano nel resto del mondo, perché secondo la volontà del gallerista americano avrebbe avuto (e ha) come referente principale l’artista, motivo per cui i suoi spazi espositivi sono pensati quale luogo di creazione e lavoro e infine condivisione con il pubblico della serie di opere. Gagosian non è perciò soltanto una galleria d’arte nel senso tradizionale ma è soprattutto una scelta nel solco della tradizione, in un’ottica più nuova e ampia, come hanno mostrato le opere di Cy Twombly che furono qui esposte per la mostra inaugurale quale viatico di un percorso dalla duratura funzione di diffusione del contemporaneo. Pepi Marchetti Franchi - La stessa scelta della direttrice della Galleria è un’emanazione diretta e naturale dell’imprenditore Gagosian, che sempre tiene salde le redini di quello che appare il suo “museo diffuso” con l’astratta forma dell’effimero, ha puntato tutto su una giovane studiosa italiana che gestisce l’intero complesso romano, Pepi Marchetti Franchi. I suoi titoli s’iniziano alla Sapienza di Roma per dipanarsi alla New York University prima e al Museum of Fine Arts di Boston poi e infine all’American Academy in Roma di matrice newyorkese. Nel 1997 fu cooptata la Guggenheim Museum, dove per diversi anni è stata membro dell’esecutivo nella direzione strategica della Fondazione, fino appunto al 2007 quando ha iniziato il suo impegno di direttrice della Gagosian di Roma, portandolo avanti secondo il progetto iniziale di luogo d’arte e diffusione del contemporaneo in una capitale storicamente votata alla conservazione di un patrimonio comunque immenso e di pregio incommensurabile.
