Call for papers WISPS XII Annual Conference The annual WISPS (Women in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies) conference will be held at the Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies, University of London on 10th and 11th November 2011, in addition there will be a WISPS workshop on November 12th. WISPS is an organization which organizes annual conferences to act as a focus for all those working in university departments in Great Britain and Ireland and/or researching into fields such as feminist theory, history, cultural memory, linguistics, literature, cultural and textual theory, audio and film studies, performance studies, politics, anthropology, geography, queer theory, and theatre studies, within Luso-Hispanic cultures CALL FOR INDIVIDUAL PAPERS AND PANELS Proposals (200 words) are invited for individual papers of 20 minutes or for panels, consisting of three papers of 20 minutes on any area of research relating to Spanish, Latin American or Lusophone studies. Proposals should be sent by the 1st September 2011. Please send your 200-word paper proposals or full panel proposals in English, Portuguese or Spanish no later than 1st September 2011, including name of speaker, title of paper and full contact details to the conference organizers (details below). For panels, the panel convenor should send abstracts (200 words) for the three papers to the conference organisers. Proposals are welcome from members and non-members and from male and female academics and Postgraduate students whose research falls within Spanish, Portuguese and Latin-American Studies (including Portuguese-speaking Africa, Macau, Goa and Timor). We would particularly welcome proposals for papers and panels that engage the conference’s keynote topics and events: - Poetry and performance Teaching and learning Theatre and translation Papers on topics not covered by these themes are also welcome. Confirmed keynote speakers: Professor Catherine Boyle, Kings College London, 'Towards the Translation and Performance of the Strong Female Voice of Love and Resistance' Dr Niamh Thornton, University of Ulster and WISPS President, ‘What’s love got to do with it?: Facing Changes in HE’ Poetry Reading: ‘Eròtiques i despentinades’– a musical recital of erotic poetry written in Catalan by women WISPS Workshop: ‘Getting unstuck: negotiating your career’ We will hold a workshop on November 12th, 10-1 p.m. Suggested payment of £10 for the workshop can be made on the day. Bursaries: There will be a limited number of bursaries available for female Postgraduate students to attend and present papers at the conference. Application forms will be will be available in the WSPS website and should be submitted with abstracts.
