packaging manufacturers (Garmond, Viperprint), lighting manufacturers (Nowodworski, Emo Neon) and decorative objects manufacturers (Justyś, Neo-Spiro). Products of those companies made in Częstochowa are successfully presented on prestigious trade fairs and sold in Germany, France, China, the USA or Russia.

Shared services is a young business line, fast developing both in our country and across the world. The city is oriented towards acquiring new companies from this industry, in return it can offer them attractive land. Thus, special real estate tax reliefs have been introduced and new specialization programs have been opened at universities. In the case of those investors it is very important to provide them with access to human resources, which requires continuous cooperation among universities, employers and self-government.

The analysis of the local economy allows to observe the connection of scientific potential and the educational offer of local universities with the development of specialized market undertakings. The Częstochowa University of Technology surely influenced and still influences the quality of industry development in the city, in the scope of: • metallurgy and metal processing: ISD Częstochowa steelworks, Wulkan, Wkręt-Met (the biggest bolts and screws manufacturer in Poland); • environmental engineering: implementation of state-of-the-art heating technologies Fortum, Wilga, municipal and on-site sewage treatment plants, waste treatment;

• automatics and control of electric equipment (Pozyton, El-Q) as well as the national leader of the ventilation industry – Dospel;

• construction – including a few dozens of medium-sized industrial, road and residential construction companies. The technical culture is also reflected in the development of the automotive industry, glass and

textile processing (e.g. the Research and Development Center TRW, TRW Financial Services Center and manufacturing plants, Gomma brake systems production, Guardian and Stolzle glassworks as well as “Polonex”).

The city relies on young people – new entrepreneurship promoting and educational programs for junior high school and high school students have been initiated. Such projects as “Akademia Młodego Przedsiębiorcy” [YoungEntrepreneur Academy] or “Młodzi – Kreatywni” [Young and Creative] offer basic knowledge of entrepreneurship as well as make people realize that a good choice of a vocational school or a study program that is in line with the economic development of the city is a guarantee of employment and enables professional development.

CZĘSTOCHOWA COMPANIES IN STATISTICS

At the end of 2014 there were in total 26,667 economic operators registered in Częstochowa; 579 in the public sector, and 26,085 in the private sector (including 19,725 natural persons operating business). 2,844 commercial law enterprises were operating, including 468 companies with foreign capital. The most numerous group among the registered entities were small enterprises, employing up to 9 people – 25,297; entities employing from 10 to 49 people – 1,112; from 50 to 249 employees – 220; from 250 to 999 people – 33 and 5 entities employing more than 1000 people.

According to the business type classification prepared by the Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS) in the middle of 2015, e.g. in the industrial sector, there were 2,775 entities, in industrial processing – 2,717, in construction – 1,707, in the car trade and repair sector – 6,260, in transport and warehousing – 1,302, in lodging and food industry – 462, financial and insurance business – 842, science and technology – 2,139, in real estate market services – 2,139, while in the cultural, entertainment and recreational business – 209. The central business activity data base concerning mainly small entities shows that the dominating activity in this area was trade and construction. █
